The New York Times ^ | September 29, 2005 | Elisabeth Bumiller

WASHINGTON, Sept. 28 - President Bush is close to naming a successor to Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and could announce his choice this week, Republicans close to the White House said Wednesday.

One name that was the source of enormous speculation in Washington legal and political circles was Harriet E. Miers, the White House counsel, who is a leader in the search for Justice O'Connor's successor. Ms. Miers, 60, was the first woman to become a partner at a major Texas law firm and the first woman to be president of the State Bar of Texas. At one point, Ms. Miers was Mr. Bush's personal lawyer.

....heard this morning on Fox News(?) that Laura Bush was pushing for a woman......

She supposedly pushed for a woman the last time around, and we got Roberts.

No one in the MSM knows squat about who'll get picked, so of course they'll strut around and throw out the names of the liberals they want and congratulate themselves on how enlightened they are, just like they always do.

I think JRB would be a great choice in every way.

Welcome to FR!

you and me, too, ma'am.

It'd be good poker of the highest order as

1) It'd force the Dems to attack a black female

2) Who was re-elected by large margins in the well-known bastion of right-wing extremism known as Kah-lee-four-nyah.

3) Who they have voted for mere months ago to confirm to a seat on the D.C. Circuit Court.

1 and 2 just make them look bad when they attack. 3 makes them look either stupid or hypocritical; they'll make verbal pretzels in the air explaining why she suddenly became a maybe from a yes.

If Brown is not nominated then we should run the Brown Rice ticket P/VP.

Ms. Miers. It's not a joke.

How good a judge is Consuelo? Is she solid pro-life? We also get a new pick on the Appellate Court to replace Roberts!

I've done some checking on her, she appears to be a real hard-liner on crime and law-and-order issues, affirmative action, etc., have no idea about her social conservative credentials. She's also 54, not 52, BTW. Also, here's the deal on her. She was confirmed 99-0 to the Ninth Circuit. It would be awfully hard for the Dems to justify rejecting her for the USSC after that.

Yep, all of those reasons plus the fact that she would be a great choice for the good of the SC and the country.

LLoyd Benson? Who is that?

Vice Presidential candidate who ran with Dukakis against Bush #41 and Dan Quayle.

I feel old.

No scrotes?? They're there...right in Hillary's Carpetbag. I wonder what she has on him? He's become extremely controversial on all matters. He does work his butt off as a Senator though.

Who knows? She has solid conservative/GOP credentials. But again, who knows what she'll do on abortion? Quite frankly, I'm not convinced that Roberts would be an "overturn Roe" vote.

FYI, she's a former prosecutor.

Here is a thread about U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Consuelo Maria Callahan that was posted after she was appointed by GWB in 2003 .

Scroll down, in 1988 (not 2000).

Anyway, she donated to the DNC and ALGORE for President in the past and I think her background was liberal. Later she became loyal to President Bush. I don't think that the best candidate today will be the best Justice in the years to come. Bush's term will finish in 2008 and then, to whom will she be loyal?

Everyone else is a Texan or her boss.

THIS IS BAD NEWS!
