Best selling author and conservative pundit Ann Coulter told Alan Colmes on the "Hannity and Colmes" show on Fox News last night that she meant it when she wrote in her book "How to Talk to a Liberal - If You Must," now out in paperback, that the rules for talking to a liberal forbid complimenting or showing graciousness to, or flattering a Democrat.
Colmes then told Coulter that Pat Tillman, the former pro football player turned Army Ranger who was killed in Afghanistan, was pro-John Kerry and against the war in Iraq. "You were quoted in the San Fransisco Chronicle yesterday" Colmes continued, saying that Tillman "was virtuous and pure, as only an American male can be. I wonder if you still would say those things" knowing he was a Democrat?
"No, but I don't believe it," she said. "I think you got that from one of those document that Mary Mapes (The producer of the bogus CBS News story on George W. Bush's Guard service) handed in to Dan Rather."
Sean Hannity then asked her about the story on her Web site, about the two Indiana firefighters volunteering to help the people of New Orleans who were sent by FEMA to an eight hour class on sexual harassment and equal opportunity, rather than straight to the Crescent City to aid residents. Ann notes on her site, "Anyone who works for FEMA for more than two weeks is required to take training programs in 'awareness and prevention of sexual harassment,' 'equal rights officer orientation,' and 'valuing diversity.'"
She told Hannity it was just another case of "Welcome to the federal government.
"That's what we ought to be having hearings on. That's what I think [former FEMA boss] Michael Brown should have been asked about. I assume this applies to all federal agencies, which is why in general, conservatives don't want to federalize everything. This is what you get when you get FEMA."
Hannity said, I think you could do a whole book just on this topic!" No, Coulter disagreed, the diversity training before you can go and rescue people says it all.
Today on Fox News' "Dayside" program, Coulter commented on Tom Delay's indictment by a Texas grand jury, saying it is pure politics by prosecutor Ronnie Earle and is a perfect example of the need for her book because Liberals want Republicans outlawed, and they "would like to put us all in Guantanamo."

His being in Iraq doesn't preclude his being killed in Afghanistan.
Tillman was as entitled to a political view on the wisdom of the war as anyone else, even if it isn't one that I would agree with.
The fact that a sports celeb like Tillman kept his views to his close friends and didn't use his fame to amplify them merely reinforces my good opinion of him. He would be prohibited from doing so by the UCMJ, but that wouldn't have stopped a less honorable man.
This in no way diminishes my regard for his service and his willingness to leave fortune behind at great risk to his safety.

Certainly the left would love to have the memory of the war's most famous soldier on their side, but in a time of war soldiers who end up opposing the action or the commander-in-chief will always get more attention.
Author Robert Kaplan, who has traveled extensively with the US military, guestimates that the combat units overwhelmingly support Bush based on his admittedly (though extensive) anecdotal evidence.
And most polls have shown the GOP consistently winning the military vote since at least Reagan. So in the quest to add virtue to one's position by alliance with those who actually do the fighting, I think the GOP would come out on top.

I just find the story about Tillman suspicious, even aside from him being killed in afghanistan. For instance, how is the war in Iraq illegal but the one in Afghanistan legal? What laws are being broken in Iraq, but being abided by in Afghanistan?
It seems hard to believe that Tillman spoke in that manner. He may have, but I'm not buying it.
But I agree, if he was anti Iraq War and pro Kerry, I still respect and admire him for doing his job and not deserting.

"Instead of going to Afghanistan, as the brothers expected, their Ranger battalion was sent to participate in the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003. The Tillmans saw combat several times on their way to Baghdad. In early 2004, they finally were assigned to Afghanistan."
Tillman served a tour in Iraq before Afghanistan.
When I first read about the requirement of the diversity training, I was wondering if this was part of the hiring practice requirements that were added to the Homeland Security bill by Tom Delay. I haven't found anyone who has an answer, but I bet I am right.
See? That's what happens when brainless trolls try to think: they get their "facts" all mixed up. I suppose you probably thought your post was quite the zinger nailing Ann on some perceived inconsistency.
I think Ann probably said that the illegal enemy combatants (who could have been shot on the spot according to the Geneva Convention) are being treated much better at Gitmo than they deserve, and possibly that they are afforded more generous accommodations their than they "enjoy" in their respective cesspool homes -- hardly the same as saying it is "a good place to be".

Tillman was killed in April of 2004, By then Kerry had sewn up the nomination. Dean dropped out in February, John Edwards in early March.
Hard to believe he was anti war, as the posting says was stated. Why would he have volunteered then?

The claim isn't that he was totally anti-war, just that he wanted to fight Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and was opposed to the Iraq war.

however, he was in Iraq in March 2003. It doesn't say when he went to Afghanistan. From the article:
"Pat Tillman was first deployed to Iraq in March 2003; it was not immediately clear when he was sent to Afghanistan, where he served in the same unit with his brother."
"Tillman, 27, was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, based at Fort Lewis, Wash. The battalion was involved in Operation Mountain Storm in southeastern Afghanistan, part of the U.S. campaign against fighters of the al-Qaida terror network and the former Taliban government along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, military officials told NBC News."
Her looks don't do anything for me but her mind is a beutiful thing to behold.
