Who is the prosecutor? Does he have a record of selectively bringing charges against Republicans?
Yes. He has a long history of persecuting...and prosecuting...political opponents.
No doubt, though, Delay will have to step down until this is cleared up. The leaders have stood by him as long as he wasn't indicted. Now he'll have to do everything he can to get the trial scheduled quickly.
I hate to see him go. He made the trains run on time. (Lurkers: Mussoline jokes would be way too predictable to be funny!)
It's Ronnie Earl, and yes, he does have a history of going after Republicans for partisan political motives. SOP for him.
Ronnie Earle, DA in the peoples republic of Austin. "Does he have a record of selectively bringing charges against Republicans" is sort of like asking "Does dan rather have a history of trying to take down politicians named Bush". This ass-clown brought a totally empty indictment against Kay Bailey-Hutchinson, and has prosecuted numerous other GOP politicians with no case whatsoever.
The GOP has an ethics rule that any member who is under indictment must step down from any leadership position. When they started to amend the rule to allow members to retain their position through the course of due process so that politically motivated indictments would not topple leaders, the democrats and the media of course decried such a scandalous rule change. Of course they never bothered to mention that this type of indictment would not affect a democrat since the democrats have no such ethics rules against themselves.
