I have family in Slidel and Covington. They were also very complimentary about the NG. One of the NG actually gave his phone to my cousin so she could make a call to tell us they were safe. That was on Tuesday.

What a wonderful media we have. We have 3 24/7 news channels, CSPAN with 3 channels, and yet NONE of them will carry this hearing. After weeks of asking for Brown's head, now they can't be bothered to bring us this hearing?

Moe probably worked for Mayor Nagin. I've run into a few of them today.

It took many weeks for the NG to reach my neighborhood after Hurricane Andrew. Big deal, we had been taking care of each other and getting supplies in on our own. Back then, we didn't whine about stuff like this. Fact is, we probably could have gotten by without the NG there, but it was sure nice to see them. Of course there were mistakes, there always are. There are people who got helped relatively quickly, and there are those who had to wait too long, its just how it is.. You try your best and learn from your mistakes, then you go on. I might just have to make my tagline permanent.

You are absolutely right. That is exactly what I am hearing on the street from the other side. (Well, except for a few tin-foil hat lefties. But Howard Dean can have them.)

Moe---surely you read about blanco's decision to WAIT FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE calling on the GUARD to come in? It is HER JOB to put them into action....she DID NOT WANT TO DO IT BECAUSE SHE KNEW WHAT MIGHT UNFOLD....and it DID UNFOLD.

She hesitated and MET WITH LAWYERS to decide responsibility for the looting etc that SHE KNEW would happen because she and her filthy brand of politics and friends were only too aware of their failure to implement a solid evacuation plan for the most desperate of NO areas.

Bringing in the FEDS in such a situation means the spotlight is going to come along as well.

And it did.

This woman and the Mayor banked on katrina missing them. And it did not. And people were left confused and unprepared because their government at the local level FAILED to act responsibly until it was too late. They waited until they KNEW katrina was going to make a direct hit. Period.

And now all of the financial movement of moneys away from the levee projects, their failure of evacuation plans, they lies about the actual size of their police force and on and on is coming to light.

It is SAD that our President had to make a call to beg them to execute a mandatory evacuation.

And it is SAD that blanco ordered FEMA and the RED CROSS to hold off, until the the area was safe (the looters were shooting) and it is SAD that she and nagin decided that SUPPLIES should NOT BE DELIEVERED to the dome because they did not WANT the people to stay there....

It was a mess because the local and state people were corrupt, had not done their jobs, were then not able to coordinate with FEMA because they HAD NOT OPERABLE PLANS.

Other states who HAD DONE THEIR JOBS----had NO PROBLEM. Period.

In all the states effected, less than 50% of the National Guard was on Active Duty status in the middle east or in support of operations there.

In LA, the governor failed to even call up all the Guard that was availible.

The Defense Department identified LA Guard units that were in the process of returning from deployment in the two months after Katrina and immediatly moved them up to return to their home state.

Isn't this the guy Rush talked about, his family was killed and that is why he took his life?

This is a rumour. The officers family had evacuated. His wife was at the funeral.

Can anyone tell me if the hearings are still going on? I had to leave this morning and I don't see anything on C-Span online now showing the hearings.
