Monday, Sept. 26, 2005 7:39 p.m. EDT Bill Maher: Laura Bush Like 'Hitler's Dog'

HBO "Real Time" host Bill Maher compared First Lady Laura Bush to "Hitler's dog" during his Friday night cablecast, after flashing a parody photo of Mrs. Bush with a black eye, as if she'd been a victim of domestic abuse.

After the photo display, Maher was challenged by guest panelist Christopher Hitchens, who told him: "It must be to [George Bush's] credit he got Laura Bush to marry him. She's an absolutely extraordinary woman."

To that, Maher replied: "Oh, come on. That's like Hitler's dog loved him. That is the silliest reason. ..."

"I think tomorrow you might be sorry you said that. Laura Bush is very gentle and talented," Hitchens warned.

With that Maher retreated a bit, insisting: "That's not what I'm saying, of course she is. But the idea that we somehow humanize any person because somebody else loves them is

ridiculous."

The outrageous exchange, reported exclusively by NewsMax contributor Steve Malzberg in his latest column, "Laura Bush and Hitler's Dog" - wasn't the worst to come from Maher's show lately.

The week before, "Real Time" guest George Carlin announced that he had a pet name for former first lady Barbara Bush.

"The Silver D - - - - e bag, I call her," Carlin announced as Maher's audience erupted in laughter.

For more details on Bill Maher's noxious outburst, including the Hitchens' quote that cut him down to size, go to www.newsmax.com/malzberg.

There are funny leftists. Maher is not one of them.

He is just mean like a two year old with a new baby brother.

I saw an 80s Bill Maher- complete with mullet and Don Johnson suit- on the comedy channel going off about Ronald Reagan- how dumb Reagan was, how useless, how cluless, etc. I thought, as I watched- compared to who (m)? I love all types of comedy- if it's funny. That guy is not funny.

The huge irony is, if he said the same things about people on the left, he wouldn't have ever had a show, any show. And he would STILL not be funny.

You can't tell me Hollywood doesn't have an agenda.

Our Hitch is most definitely a gentle and talented man. I thank him for defending the first lady's honor.

don't mind comics making fun of my president, but Maher and Carlin are not funny. Their jokes suck. They are full of anger and bitterness.

If you want to see/hear good anti-Bush humor, check Jon Stewart out (although I don't watch him that often). I want to dislike him, but he is really, really funny. And he does nail the left almost as much.

I still remember the field reporter from the RNC in 2000 -- "The evil was palpable." I fell off my chair laughing.

Carlin and Maher are SOOOO 1980s. Well, Carlin stopped being funny in the 70s.

Because Bill detached-sociopath Maher has never experienced paternal/maternal love doesn't make him an expert on love period. Maher is the epitome of a thing disguised as a human who makes excuses for paying for sex and calling it "love making" because he is void of intimacy and joy. He's a souless joke used as filler when fodder has been spread thin. He projects every time he opens his gaping mouth.

Wow! I was gonna post a comment, but that pretty well sums up the homely little miscreant.

Ridicule is a powerful weapon in turning public opinion. Remember that when Hillary runs...

"I'd call Maher a scum bag . . ."

I was curious about the age of Miss Nancy "Coco" Johnsen, so I googled for her bio information. Warning! This woman is a porn queen--X-rated material will be found.

In my mind, Bill Maher appeared to be using his money to buy this very erotic black woman as his sex slave. If this was a lover's relationship, I think she was actually being used as his full time escort.

To make sure she fit in with his circle, he provided money so she could buy expensive high fashion clothes. This was part of a calculated strategy to create the image of a "power couple." To make sure Coco came on board with his scheme, he promised to buy her this lavish house in Beverly Hills where Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez once lived. This was all a manipulative effort by Maher to control this woman's life. In reality Maher was playing the role of a Professor Henry Higgins (of "My Fair Lady"} who would transform Eliza Doolittle to be a "proper, aristocratic lady." In this effort, Maher wanted to own this woman like you would own a house.

I suspect that Coco saw through Maher's manipulations and became rebellious, which brought on the abuse and eventually, the lawyers.

True. It ain't funny about Laura Bush, and if he compared Mrs. Clinton to Hitler's dog, not funny either. For the record, there is a funny Hitler's dog joke on The Simpsons. Santa's Little Helper has a twisted stomach, and when Homer and Marge find out saving the dog will cost $700, Homer tells the kids Santa's Little Helper will go straight to heaven, etc. The kids ask Homer about dog heaven, and then ask him if dog hell exists. Homer says yes, there is a dog hell, and Hitler's dog and the Lassie that mauled Timmy are both their. That's funnier than Bill.

If I was a member of the Bush family, both Maher and Carlin would still be getting transfusions 24/7. Liberals need to be dealt with as if they are hardened criminals. The 2 talking toilets should be in the gutter with the rest of the "Coney Island Whitefish"
