** I don't think it exists, quite frankly. If we got rid of our Enemies, we'd soon begin fighting amongst ourselves. Peaceniks don't feel any hunger to reach for the stars. **
Certainly an interesting point of view. I don't know that world peace, in terms of everyone 'getting along', will ever exist, but I do think that eventually we will have fewer wars. The US disagrees with people all the time, but does not go to war with them over it. Until the day comes when everyone thinks and acts exactly the same, you are right, we will never have world peace in terms of 'everyone getting along'
Woahh...far out. That was some deep peace talk. I need another joint man. /sarc off.
He's done quit preachin' and gone to meddlin'. I guess he would like the U.S. Army to be like the Tibetan Army when the Chinese invaded.
Hey, Dalai, render unto Caesar....
He could teach the Palestinians a thing or two about "occupation."
Sounds good to me. He is pointing out the difference he sees between countries at war and a person defending themselves as an individual. Peace on Earth is a nice, gentle dream that should be embraced but -
Universal Peace on Earth will only happen when every life form is extinct and nothing remains alive. War is the natural state of life every life form fights for resources. Weeds are at war with flowers and grasses, kudzu vine is at war with trees, wild life from ants to squirrels to man go to war.
Meditated? ;-]
Straight from South Park!
That was very nicely put. I don't get critical of him, and I find that area of the world and culture to be very fascinating. In his speech, he did not sit and 'Bush Bash' or anything else along those lines.
Unfortunately/fortunately, what we can learn from the events that happened in Tibet, is the need for a military. History has shown us that appeasement does nothing but make the aggressor more aggressive. It would be nice to live in a world without war, and that would be the ideal. However, we do not live in an ideal world.
has he said anything to the Islamist crowd lately?
Another reason why I can't get that interested or excited about the Dalai Lama is that so many of his American fans are such flakes
Although his religion is Wicca, Wood-Ridge resident Jimi Schultz said he draws on many ideas of Buddhism.
"I love the teaching, the whole essence," Schultz said.
The 31-year-old, who works in public relations, said yesterday was an opportunity to "just be in his presence . . . his vibe."
Yeah dude, the Dalai Lama is so totally spiritual, man. I saw him on this one TV show once and I was like whoa and he so totally blew my mind that I spilled bong water all over my ferret. It was cool though, 'cause I was in frickin' nirvana, man.
He won the prize and lost his country.
Perhaps he considers that a fair trade-off!
What a jerk!
Your reply #33 and its reference to dharmakaya is quite appropriate, heavy and beautiful.
Poor Dalai Lama ... may God love him ... he's pretty dern clueless for being so wise.
One more pompous ass heard from.
And I can't believe the Dali Lama is ripping us, unless he has secretly converted to Islamism.
I don't think that true peace will ever come, unless over several millenia there are enough mutations to offset our brains as they are now. We're fixed, set in place, because why haven't we in all of human history found Utopia before now? Peace doesn't have to be the product of a technological age.
Peace is a dream. Yet the dreaming parts of us can't be surgically removed either, and we will die even if deprived of sleep for too long.
So maybe I oughta leave the Dalai alone and let him sleepwalk? ;)
This is rich coming from a guy who has lost his own country to war
he's pretty dern clueless for being so wise.
Well it seems so at times but these are his beliefs
and he must follow them, as he always has.
He is a very funny man with quite a sense of humor.
It's been my pleasure and good fortune to hear him
speak three times, and I've always come away a little
richer for it.
Whoaaah
Oh trust me, I only went up River Road (by Rutger's Stadium) because I had to!
Wow, I just couldn't believe all the people.
Good! Keep repeating the Mantra until compassion dawns.
See it's easy to keep from falling asleep.
Thwack!
No bowl of sampa for you!
