CBS News ^

The No. 2 al Qaeda leader in Iraq was killed Sunday night, U.S. officials say. Abu Azzam, reportedly the deputy to Abu Musab al Zarqawi, was shot during a house rain in Baghdad, according to Pentagon officials.

As the aide to Zarqawi, Azzam was reportedly in control of financing foreign fighters coming into Iraq, CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports.

According to Pentagon officials coalition troops raided the house in response to a tip. When Azzam opened fire, these officials say, he was killed with troops' return fire.

I bet it's tough to get life insurance when you have to put down "Zarqawi's Top Aid" in the occupation box.

Job Description:
*Views America's culture through Beverly Hillbilly reruns,
*Can scream real loud riding down desert slopes clicking tongue LALALALALALAL
*Has "The Enemy of my enemy is...well, my enemy" tatooed on his a$$.
*Understands no promotion capabilities.
*Really good 401K program. That is 401,000 martyrs to go before they realize there are no 72 virgins in heaven (what about the female islamic terrorists? they get virgins too?)

That someone is making a matrix of what information leads to the next group of terrorists.

Something along this line (without going into detail) is how we are walking down UBL -

"Know what I wish? That someone is making a matrix of what information leads to the next group of terrorists. That would just be fun to walk through and read the connections."

Whadya' think, they just stumble across these guys? Okay, sometimes they do...

You are invited to join the Belmont Club, a forum with deeply conservative perspective on the meaningful angles of strategy and world events, viewed in the full context of history, both traditional and alternative doctrine, and thoroughly absent of such asinine comments like, "Hey man- that's like the 10th number 2 guy that we've killed! We kick @ss!"

I appreciate and thank you for your attempt to explain black humor. I've been bloviating all day. I am so embarassed. I didn't know anyone else could hear : )
Funny, I hadn't ever seen any question of troop support anywhere before, at FreeRepublic and in fact, from what I have seen, for anyone to imply as much would seem pretty insulting.

Interestingly, SeeBS didn't catch the heat on this thread for their use of words in the headline, but they sure are a joke.

I'd bet we'd all take an 'aide' anyday, be it #2 or #275. But it's safe to say (or is it) the mother of all celebrations is reserved for #1. I, personally, feel the post game party should be held at the end of the game, not for the 3rd quarter touchdown. And by God I'll not drag them down by hairsplitting the plays, I'll keep cheering them on!

We had a local soldier die today. God's peace be upon him and his family. If anyone would like to send their thanks, their sympathies, their condolences, you may freepmail me and I will take them to the family.

If the news media wasn't so liberally bias, this report would be the top story of the day.

The best way to handle this is to write the liberal bias news media and complain. Write and inform them that we will contact their sponsors and threanten to boycott sponsor's products if their leftist news doesn't become more Pro-America.

Where was my brain on that one? Do you suppose it would it be in FR's interests to begin a boycott and keep a list?

I quit watching Dan Rather and "60 Minutes" approximately 6 or 7 years ago because they broadcast a bogus report on how military guys abuse their wives. The evidence that they presented was the worst act I've ever seen.

I know what you mean. I watch the Today Show and Letterman just to see what's being spoon fed to the American television audience. I took my television out of my living room and threw the kids outside when they were growing. I wouldn't have cable, either. I figured if we couldn't find something to watch on three channels, we didn't really need to be watching. There are many programs I wish I could access, but it's sure not our life.

My bad. This was a top deputy. Not a poohbah. The Associated Press has now confirmed this. Early reports tend to be inaccurate . This was not a mere aide, or henchman. It was indeed a sworn deputy.

Here is a little gem that the AP let slip. Notice there are no dates associated. Just names and places:
In north Iraq, a top aide to al-Zarqawi surrendered to police in the city of Mosul, Iraqi army Brig. Gen. Ali Attalah said Monday. The aide, Abdul Rahman Hasan Shahin, was one of the most wanted figures in Mosul, Attalah said.

The general SAID it Monday. Now the hajji's gotta guess how long this guy has been talking.
This is extremely good news for coalition forces. Looking forward to more "top level" incidents.
