Book Claims Sex Abuse Not Harmful
by Steve Jordahl

Once again an attempt is made to promote the shocking theory that pedophilia is good.

An old heresy is surfacing again. Sexual contact between adults and children is normal, even beneficial to children and can serve as a useful tool in the mentoring process. In a new book about the role of homosexuality in ancient Greece and Rome, Temple University Professor Bruce Rind claims sex between adults and children can be beneficial. Therapist Joe Nicolosi has seen the "benefits" in dozens of victims.

"It lowers self-esteem, it lowers trust, it creates profound self-doubts about oneself, it creates future difficulties in terms of intimacy and trust."

The assertion that homosexuality and child sexual abuse were accepted norms of ancient cultures has no basis in fact.

"Absolutely not. That is a mythology promoted by gay activists to justify and to find legitimacy in their perversion."

But the fact that the view is published at all troubles Dr. Warren Throckmorton of Pennsylvania's Grove City College.

"With the publication of this book I am concerned that the effort here is to make this view mainstream."

Nicolosi claims homosexuality is at the root of most abuse of young boys, the focus of a great deal of the book, and points to the sex scandal in the Catholic Church as an example. Rind was published by the American Psychological Association several years ago, but public outcry was so severe the APA repudiated the paper. He did not return repeated calls for comment.

Is it not strange that an 18 year old young man can face prison time for dating a 16 yr old girl

Oh, balderdash.

Prison time for "dating"? Get real. Prison time for sleeping with a 16yo girl, is the correct way to put it.

I dated a 16yo and a 17yo girl when I was a 21 year old college junior. Their parents didn't have me arrested, and didn't even complain, though they were careful to meet me and get to know me. Hint: I treated those girls like the young ladies they were and never went beyond a (that's ONE) good night kiss.

Are we really so thoroughly corrupted as a culture that we call sex "dating" even when we're talking about a 16 year old??

Honesty and chastity are both virtues.

i am trying to understand the leap from openess about sex and how it jumps to beastiality and pedophilia?
And yes , i believe personal choice and privacy are paramount.
Government interference and morality police need not tell me what to do. I have been raised with good moral values and the fear of god to steer me inthe right direction. That does not give me the righto decide the fate of others. If a woman decided to abort , it is her choice, not mine to mandate.
The reason I have been a freeper for so long is the exchange of ideas and the right to differ with others on here without being chastised. It doesn't mean i have to tow the party line. I also enjoy the exchange of differing views and the ability of my fellow freepers to give me the real story.
So I think Americans have a preoccupation with sex and the inabilty to differentiate between true crimes and the exploration of growing up.
And if your wife wants to hop on rover, who am i to say yes or no?

I understand you completely and I've felt all of thise same things.

If I'd ever had a child of my own, I swore that I would KILL anyone who touched her.
No family politics, no excuse-making, nothing.
Just a bullet between the eyes.

"Mom, Dad, family as safety and sanctuary....everything becomes a potential source of pain, anxiety or fear."

Yup.
I've had GAD [generalized anxiety disorder] and panic attacks my whole life, off and on.

He, on the other hand, has had a wonderful, rich life.

Am I bitter?

Naaaah*.

[*that's ^ the only intentional lie you'll ever hear me tell]...:)

Truer words were never spoken, I was abused as a child and it does destroy you. Yes you move on but the damage is always there under the surface.

Amen. I know this sounds awful, but while I was pregnant, I was really hoping I was having a boy. I'm glad I have a little girl, but the thought that anything may happen to her makes me sick. But it's always there, in the back of my mind.

You asked: What if our desire is towards animals? Should that be "more open"?

Why not ask the calm, reasoned intellectuals at PETA or the Humane Society of America?

Surely we would receive an insightful answer, wouldn't we? Assuming they can take time off from their arduous fund raising efforts. /sarc off

It is the topic of this thread. I guess I thought we were all discussing that subject.

i believe personal choice and privacy are paramount.Government interference and morality police need not tell me what to do.

Personal choice, to what?, having sex with children?

I also enjoy the exchange of differing views and the ability of my fellow freepers to give me the real story.

Well good then you understand when your fellow freepers tell you that child molesting is wrong no matter how much you other open Americans think we are puritans for it.

This world is getting to the place where nothing really surprises me.

The fact that so many actually believe its so okay to kill babies. What immorality can top that?

Thanks for the update. It's been so long since a non-American has told us how screwed up we are.
