Mullah: 'US, Israel exaggerating Iran's nuclear activities'

Mullah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani says the US and Israel are raising too much hue and cry trying to exaggerate Iran's peaceful nuclear activities solely for political purposes, irrespective of the grave consequences of their actions regionally and globally.

In an interview with the Jeddah-based daily, Okaz, published on Saturday, Rafsanjani said there is a possibility of the referral of Iran's nuclear issue to the UN Security Council though "knowing the serious outcome of such a move would convince western leaders to act more prudently to avoid such a development".

"The US and the 'Zionist regime' have been trying to exaggerate Iran's nuclear activities to pressure Tehran for political gains," mullah said.

A simpler and helpful option, he said, would be to let Iran continue its program within the legal and international framework, and allow the International Atomic Energy Agency's inspectors carry out regular supervision over the procedures. He pointed out that Iran has made the same proposition to Europeans time and again.

Mullah noted that Iran signed the additional protocol of the Non-Proliferation Treaty and allowed IAEA experts to visit its sites regularly in a goodwill move to convince the world of the civilian purpose behind its nuclear activities.

"We also tried to prove our good intentions by agreeing to hold extensive talks with Europeans to make the issue fully transparent," he said.

Asked about factors that contributed to his defeat in the June presidential election, Rafsanjani said, "I am not willing to talk about it at this point to avoid creating tension among political groups; national unity stands above everything else."

I trust this Mullah and the rest of them over there just about as much as I'd trust King Ahab Clinton or the power that controls him, Queen Jezebel Evita Clinton.
