Tim Russert had a chance to fess up to his viewers on Sunday and let them know that his "Meet the Press" show was used for political propaganda by Jefferson (La.) Parish President Aaron Broussard on September 4 when Broussard embellished a story about a mother of an employee that perished in the flood waters of Hurricane Katrina.
Russert failed.
Instead, he tried to lay a trap for the Louisiana politician. The story of the first mess is here, but let's review Broussard's unfounded claims about an elderly woman's death in the floodwaters of Katrina:
Broussard's accusation was that a colleague's 90-year old mother died because the "federal government" didn't come rescue her for five days. First--consider that--for five days locals in Louisiana would have ignored this poor woman's pleas for help and allowed her to die while she phoned for help....[snip]...
...Turns out--that was a lie. She died on Monday. Her son, Thomas Rodrigue, actually phoned the nursing home two days before the storm to encourage that nursing home to evacuate like they were supposed to and they didnt until it was too late.
And it's fortunate for Broussard that the "five days of phone calls" was a lie. As it stands, he's only a sleazy politician that tried to use an elderly woman's tragic death to further his political agenda, and shift blame from his failed leadership to the feds.
If the above tirade were true, it would mean that for five days, the people in the government of Jefferson Parish, under the crying Broussard's inept leadership, would have ignored a woman's plea for help while she died a horrible slow death.
That would make Broussard and his colleagues absolute human debris as any able bodied person with any kind of compassion would have left their safe building and traveled the few miles to the next Parish to save this woman.
Russert tried to take the easy way out and shame Broussard into admitting his blatant lie. As Russert learned today Louisiana politician Aaron Broussard has no shame.
Once challenged Broussard first began crying on cue again, then quickly changed to attack mode when he realized he was caught.
It would be priceless if a woman weren't dead.
First Broussard repeated the lie:
"Sir, this gentleman's mother died on that Friday before I came on the show."
Then he blamed his staff:
"My own staff came up to me and said what had happened. I had no idea his mother was in the nursing home. It was related to me by my own staff, who had tears in their eyes, what had happened."
He invoked God:
"And I took (Thomas Rodrigue) and put him in my hospital room with my prayer books and told him to sit there and cry out and pray away and give honor to his mother with his tears and his prayers."
Then he attacked those trying to sort out the truth:
"Listen, sir, somebody wants to nitpick a man's tragic loss of a mother because she was abandoned in a nursing home? Are you kidding? What kind of sick mind, what kind of black-hearted people want to nitpick a man's mother's death?"
Tim Russert was stumped.
Instead of challenging the real "black-hearted" person here, Aaron Broussard, and pointing out that, in part, it was he and his staff that abandoned the mother in the nursing home and allowed her to die and then tried to capitalize on her death, Russert was stoned.
Russert again missed what was an easy question.
Why in the world did not someone--anyone--leave that government office in that Parish and go get the man's mother? They were there--right next door in the next Parish.
Instead Broussard again blamed the feds and Russert allowed it.
"It will be the saddest tale you ever heard, a man who was responsible for safekeeping of a half a million people, mother's died in the next parish because she was abandoned there and he can't get to her and he tried to get to her through EOC," Broussard barked.
The EOC?
Please--these people were right there--get in a car, take a boat, wade through the water, whatever you have to do--just get to the man's mother and save her.
They had two days to save her.
Would you allow your mother to drown just a few miles away when you knew for two days she needed a rescue? Let alone the "five day timeline" Broussard lied about.
The responsibility ultimately lies with those that ran the nursing home where the woman perished and they have been indicted with 34 counts of negligent homicide by the Louisiana state attorney general, as Russert pointed out. But the people in that building are far from blameless.
Aaron Broussard and his staff also failed this woman and as a result she is dead.....
I could not amplify this a jot.
An insightful diagnosis of the innate deviousness of the left...and the techniques they use to divert attention from their fables and lies, and to shift the culpability resulting from their inevitable failures of leadership and general moral bankruptcies!
A.A.C.
He's also a drunk. I have a nephew who worked as a waiter in a small restaurant in D.C. , and Russert was a regular there. My nephew told me that he REGULARLY drinks 8-10 beers in a sitting. (This may be his way of identifying with his blue-collar roots, Dad and all and such...).
Rats !!! Bump...
Then he has on 3 left wing NY Times idiots to talk about Bush's failed this and that !
Methinks Stalin would have been proud of this filthy scum.
I am surprised any conservative would watch Russert. Why would they watch him? He has nothing of substance to offer. Might as well search moveon.org.
Bullseye assesment of Russert.
broussard: a bald-faced lie made for political purposes
russert: sitting idly by in a mass media position allowing a bald-faced lie made for political purposes to be disseminated among the masses without challenge ensuring that the bald-faced lie becomes a national memory of an event which never occurred but smears their opponent all the same.
bttt
A. Broussard started telling his story
And cried when the tale got real gory.
Russert, barely awake,
Was taken in by this fake....
Yet, Tim STILL won't admit that he's sorry.
i have loss all respect for tim russert and meet the press!
IMO, Russert is not smart enough to ask second and third questions.
You said it!
Tiny Tim Russert has always been a leftist, liberal spouting imp.
In fact, for years I have listened to friends and Freepers who have praised him as being, at worse a moderate and I did so with extreme disgust.
Bump
Good one. I think that's the Colin Powell non-interview?
