NEW ORLEANS Even with new floodwaters lapping at the high-water marks set by Katrina less than a month ago, Mayor Ray Nagin pushed a plan to bring people back to storm-ravaged New Orleans soon is possible.
Federal officials said Saturday it will take two to three weeks to pump out floodwaters created by Hurricane Rita. The water poured in through levees that were patched after Hurricane Katrina.

Noggin might also have a casino he built with the money NO got for levee building, no people, no business....
So he's a pushin' to get the population back? Maybe not too many want to come back to their mildew ridden homes (if they exist at all).
I guess that would be for a bounty to get her voters back on the Plantation.
Would that be for crazy people?
Would that be for crazy people?
I don't think you are going to see many of these people go back.
First, once lost possessions in the homes, but I doubt they owned the homes, I think many were living there on vouchers.
Now they are in places like Texas and some who wanted to work have people finding work for them and those wanting to remain a part of the (Great Society) want to remain so in a better piece of real estate than they were in.
Louisiana has lost some folks for good.
He is nutz!
Naggin' Nagin must be missin' his drugs???? </sarcasm
I'm guessing a significant number of them.
N.O. mayoral elections are next year, 2006.
How long does someone have to be absent from their place of residence, assuming it still exists, before they lose their eligibility to vote in local elections?
Great title: Jumbo Liar!
Now we need DFL to provide lyrics.
From who Nagin said he wanted back in New Orleans - I thought "When The Saints Go Marching In" was the wrong theme song
Please get this IDIOT out of office ASAP. He is not fit to be mayor of ANYTHING. Not even New Orleans.
What is amazing is that Bush was blamed for the Katrina deaths and flooding and this goofball mayor got a total pass?
This is what's gotten to Nagin. This Tuesday there's a big job fair in Atlanta for the Katrina evacuees. It's going to be in downtown Atlanta at the Georgia World Congress Center. For more information go to www.ajcjobs.com/katrinajobs or call 404-222-2059.
According to the ad in the AJC, 300 companies will be there with more than 10,000 available jobs.
Georgia's economy is good and apparently we can absorb a lot of new job seekers.
The best and the brightest will not return to NO.
We cannot afford to continuously allow people back and then pay for them to be evacuated.
Hundreds of busses were brought in to NO and the result was only about a dozen people chose to leave.
This is ridiculous.
ENOUGH OF THE BUFFOONERY
" he is beyond stuck on stupid.
and so is the Governor."
Yes, (whine) but it's all Bushes fault! /sarcsam
