WASHINGTON, Sept. 24 - Vast numbers of protesters from around the country poured onto the lawns behind the White House on Saturday to demonstrate their opposition to the war in Iraq, pointedly directing their anger at President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
A sea of anti-administration signs and banners flashed back at a long succession of speakers, who sharply rebuked the administration for continuing a war that has cost the lives of nearly 2,000 Americans and many more Iraqis. Many of the speakers also charged Mr. Bush with squandering resources that could have been used to aid people affected by the two hurricanes that slammed into the Gulf Coast.
As protesters moved from the rally to a march around the White House, they packed city streets, and in some areas, came face to face with groups of pro-administration demonstrators, who held up signs expressing support for the war.
Organizers of the rally and march had a permit for 100,000 people, but the National Park Service no longer provides official estimates for large gatherings in Washington.

It's been a while since I've posted here. I sure would like to get ready to counter these protests if they ever begin to increase in size.
The leftists have gobs and gobs of groups dedicated solely to protesting. Here in NYC, you are likely to see every Communist, Socialist, and Anarchist group show up as "coalitions". Wish we could show up in the same numbers.
Here are some of the brilliant tidbits provided by some of these protesters:
One sign held high said, "Make levees, not war." [Wow, that is really saying something. Thank you , NYTimes, for reporting that.]
"I really haven't had a chance to digest all this," [Cindy Sheehan] said in an interview after her speech, referring to the attention she has received. "I hope I'm a catalyst for change, but I don't want to be the focus of change." [Perhaps you could pause between sobs, Cindy, and change that sad sack act of yours.]
"It's significant that Bush is out of town," said William Dobbs, an organizer of the march. It shows that he's turned his back on the peace movement..." [No, Mr. Dobbs, it shows he is out of town. It isn't significant. However, it is significant that you think it is, because it shows how stupid and dishonest you are.]
There were FReepers there today and there is a big big Support the Troops deal tomorrow .
Do you mean in Washington? Wow, that is really good news. Thanks for letting me know.

Support the Troops and Their Mission Weekend!! (Sept 23rd thru 26th)
Our crowds might not be as large as theirs because we have to work for a living, but where they go, we'll be there to rain on their parade. It's amazing how few of us it takes to ruin their day.

If the entire memebership of the Communist party USA, and all the other anarchist or socialist group were to be compared, you would find a duplicate of the same list. The same people saying the same thing does not make a coalition. I live in Russia and they dont want to go back. They never will. Communisim is dead, dead, dead. Most young people dont know why thier parents put up with it for so long. Th US new media has made the Commie groups look larger than it is.
Instead of "anti war" protests, they should be called the "do-nothing" protests.
Our crowds are also not as large because we do not have individual donors like George Soros and large groups such as the Sierra Club, Communist Party USA, ANSWER, Code Pink, etc. who gladly pay for literature signs, sound and stage equipment AND buses and trains to move protestors to Moonbat Central.
That, plus we have a life.
Out of three hundred million citizens in the U.S.A.,and you have a crowd of be it a thousand or for that matter a million disgruntled America haters , { how can I make such a statement? How many American flags fly in a respectful way in any of these events?} who appear to pay no mortgage, hold a job or provide for a family , will have coverage by the media.
But those of us that work, support a family, pay taxes, attend church and love our country, in essence the silent majority need only to protest at the ballot box--most other peaceful America loving rallies by our side will somehow not merit coverage by most media.
The Times will not give a number, no one attended. The protest drew S--t.
Things that they needed at the Anti-War March

Yep. Bush scheduled Rita to make landfall on Sep 24 just so he had an excuse to be out of town.
Freaking morons.
They are pro-jihad protests.
