Anti-War Protesters March in Washington

Opponents of the war in Iraq marched Saturday in a clamorous day of protest, song and remembrance of the dead, some showing surprisingly diverse political views even as they spoke with one loud voice in wanting U.S. troops home.

The surging crowd, shouting "Bush out now" and "Peace now," marched in front of the White House and then to the Washington Monument in an 11-hour marathon of dissent.

They were young people with green hair, nuns whose anti-war activism dates to Vietnam, parents mourning their children in uniform lost in Iraq, and uncountable families motivated for the first time to protest.

President Bush himself was out of town, monitoring hurricane recovery efforts from Colorado and Texas. The protesters shouted for his impeachment.

"Bush Lied, Thousands Died," said one sign. "End the Occupation," said another.

Police Chief Charles H. Ramsey, noting that organizers had hoped to draw 100,000 people, said, "I think they probably did

The only people I've seen with that expression have been either senile or drugged. Any guesses?

let me tell you there were a whole lot of good looking chicks in those crowds circa 1969. Not like today's protests at all. Maybe this is what those sixties chicks morphed into with the passage of decades spent in The Movement.

Almost makes one think they've got a bit of a recruitment problem, doesn't it? No fresh meat.

"Cindy Sheehan, the California mother who drew thousands of demonstrators to her 26-day vigil outside Bush's Texas ranch last month, won a roar of approval when she took the stage in Washington. Her 24-year-old son, Casey, was killed in Iraq last year."

The Washington Post and AP have hit a new low by claiming Cindy Sheehan "drew thousands of demonstrators" (see above) while she was camped outside the President's ranch in Texas. I don't recall even the friendliest of the MSM ever claiming there were more than 200 protestors in Crawford, and that number probably included the journalists themselves.

Here's the secret weapon...for some reason it's the only one I've seen so far. There's not much to it, all parts readily available at your neighborhood Radio Shack.

I have Merle Haggard's "Fightin' Side of Me", Darryl Worley "Have You Forgotten", Charlie Daniels "In America", President Bush's post-9/11 speeches, John Wayne's Pledge of Allegiance, Taps, Amazing Grace, Star Spangled Banner, Caisson's March, Marine Hymn, many Army and Marine Cadences , et al loaded on the generic MP3 player.

Been in town for some years and of all the anti war protests, this was the most diverse and peacefull group I've seen. Not all green hairs this time, but lots of mom and pops with their kids at this one. This was almost like a july 4th celebration on the Mall with many carrying the US flag. This protest has grabbed a wide range of folks this time.

I just got back. There were a lot of people and as you said, many people brought their kids. I couldn't believe the mouths on some of these parents. Their kids seemed scared of them. The fact they were carrying flags doesn't fool me one bit.

I will try to post some pics later. Gotta run now.

Most of the isolationists before WWII were funded by Stalin and the CPUSA. The others who supported staying out were useful fools then too.

Nothing much has changed it seems. Every generation has them.

22. It is really important to note that WE now seem to 'own'
SUPPORT THE TROOPS - they HAVE to add the words 'and the war' to clarify their position. That IS an important change."

I almost forgot...Satan showed up too. Of course, the Parks Police made him stay in the street and kept him off the sidewalk.

Do you know if the DUmmies had a LIVE thread for the protest as it was being shown on C-span???

When the TRUE "Honor the Troops" rally is on tomorrow (if they don't pre-empt it for hurricane coverage)...we should have a live thread...

There was another liberal article that said the protesters gathered by the thousand but then stated that two thousand marched on the white house.I guess it was right technically speaking but it was pretty misleading.Even if there was a hundred thousand there it doesn't change the fact that the protesters represent ideas most Americans despise.I wish a title wave hit the protest area and washed the scum off the streets of DC.

we got a lot of those when we turned the "V" peace sign to "V" for victory in Iraq. Suddenly, the 2 fingers became one.
