You'd think with all the trouble everyone went through the least Rita could have done was rain enough so you didn't have to water.

Thanks for the bump patriciaruth. I'm trying to keep this thread on the front page until everyone gets checked back in. We've got about half the list accounted for.

How about pinging some of those still on your checkin list?
You can do alot of bumping by pinging.

Has anyone heard any news from the Baton Rouge area? A nephew lives about 15 or 20 miles north of there.
Btw ... BTTT ... :-)

I was going to wait until later to do that. We already sent out a mass ping a little earlier.

Thanks to you both! The seven of us are in one of those high-profile, wind-vulnerable vehicles . . . an Excursion! . . . so we'll wait until wind is gone, gas is plentiful, and the kids are worn out from riding horses. Monday, here we come!

We already sent out a mass ping a little earlier Ah, didn't realize that.
(Actually, just thinking up excuses to bump this thread)

LOL---but we all know that Bush meant to hit the low income and minority communities with Rita---he missed so he's down there now to try again.

We hunkered down in our house in Northwest Houston area. On Wednesday when Rita became a cat 5 with 175mph winds I was fully prepared to bug out... But the ever skeptical wife wanted to wait for it to settle into its final approach.
In the end, we made the right decision to stay. Still, I was a day ahead of everyone in getting bottled water, gas, cash form the ATM, etc... We had only tropical storm winds, no damage and no loss of power.
To: TheMom
That's OK. I wasn't gone as long as I thought I'd have to be. Howlin had to leave until this evening and I realized I had to go pick up the geraniums I ordered. If you don't pick them up the day they call, they sell them. :o)

Double check with the school system as to when they start back. Alief ISD starts back Wednesday, and they are usually one of the last school districts to close their schools.

Apparently, they only get a recording when they call the designated Reliant Energy phone number. Reliant has 600,000 customers without power and has said repeatedly on TV and radio, not to call, they know who is out. In a couple of days if their neighbors have power and they still do not, then they should call.

Everyone fine here. We stuck it out with some friends from Beaumont who evacuated to Houston. They just found out their house is fine but are not sure when they can get back. Only damage was part of the roof that hid the AC units blew over. No leaking and I wanted to put on a new metal roof anyway. Power back on and now the cable is back. Must go do some catching up. I heard Anderson Cooper was running for his life when the windows of the Elegante hotel in Beaumont blew out. Hope I can catch that!
