I am just catching up on the news..I think Jasper was one of the hardest hit..I knew if we dodged the bullet someone else sadly wouldn't..so I just prayed for the storm to weaken..

Our subdivision's entrance's are being guarded by police lest anyone decides to take advantage of those who evacuated my daughter's neighbor said.

There is no gas so the same situation that existed still exists..I hope people stay where they are until supplies can be replenished. I will never forget the scenes along 45 N.yesterday from very early morning until we finally cut off at Buffalo...

We had filled up early in the week and driven 11 miles only on that tank in order to have a full tank to leave. Our normal 3 hour drive took 6..no problem.

At least I never heard Shep say SabEYEn instead of SaBEAN. When I heard geraldo say it again this morning, I nearly screamed. When I heard Tony say it, I freepmailed him.

I once heard a guy on the radio in NY, NY say "today is San Jack See Nito Day in Texas." It took me a full minute to figure out what he was talking about.

I have family in Woodville, and wondering what is going on there.

I had a great uncle and aunt who owned an antique shop there for many years. It is one of the nicest towns in Texas. I hope all is well.

Tell him not to go yet. They're trying to keep the roads clear so the convoys can get through. They're trying to get food and gas back into the city, the power workers and rescue crews need to get to the hot zone. Please ask him to stay put. There will be another press conference at 5:00 with return instructions, but for now they need the roads clear.

If they really think that people with homes that were unaffected in NW, West, and SW Houston are going to wait until Sunday or Monday to come home they are nuts. Further the distribution centers for food and gas in this area are SOUTH of town so once whatever convoys they are bringing in are here I just don't see a problem if you live west of downtown.

Never left town. She made the turn to north as she was supposed to and now we are baking in 105 degree heat here in South Texas. Is it fall yet?

I think what they're trying to do is make sure there is fuel all along the route and to get folks to come back on an even scale so there isn't the huge traffic jams. In addition to the jams being aggrivating, they would also tie up the roads so the trucks to restock the stores and service stations wouldn't be able to get through.

Howlin our power just came back on, 5 minutes ago. It went off about 1am and I was distraught! It went off during Alicia and didn't come back on for EIGHT DAYS! I am so happy! Oh, Rita? It went east of us and all I have is small tree limbs and leaves covering my yard. No big deal (Thank Goodness)

LOL, thanks for the offer. I'll keep it in mind for any future "emergencies".

For those of you in SW Houston and in need of Bloody Mary fixins'(or whatever), Bigwick Liquor Store at 6719 Bissonnet is open. (Bissonnet and Beechnut)

I feel so much better now. I might even take a nap this afternoon.

From Snopes:

http://www.snopes.com/katrina/photos/crocodile.asp

"No, a 21-foot crocodile has been not been found swimming around the flooded streets of New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. These photographs were taken in a very different part of the world over two years ago, and someone has simply altered the text that originally accompanied the pictures in e-mail forwards and changed the locale to New Orleans:

Monster in Pointe Noire

This crocodile was on the beach in front of the Petroleum club, Plage Sportive In Pointe Noire. 21 FT long, 4,500 lbs, around 80 years old minimum.

Specialists said that he was looking to eat humans because he was too old to catch animals. For the past few months in some villages close to Pointe Noire people were complaining that some people in their villages have been disappearing, could be this crocodile. This crocodile was killed by the army last Sunday at 3:00 pm, currently he is in the freezer at the Azur hotel.

These photographs actually show a crocodile that was shot and killed on 6 July 2003 at Pointe-Noire in the Republic of Congo. According to an article in allafrica.com, the reptile was a Nile crocodile whose vital statistics fell a bit short of the claims made above: he was estimated to be 50 years old, about 16 feet in length, and about 1,900 lbs. (not quite the 80-year-old, 21-foot, 4,500-pound monster described in e-mail). The local mayor reportedly insisted on preserving the crocodile's carcass against the efforts of locals who wanted to eat it and arranged for it to be shipped to a taxidermist.

It was his choice to run out of power not mine!!

If he would have turned off some of the lights he would probably still have some left. He needs to learn how to ration his electricity.

Thanks for the thread, Howlin. Power never went out here. I know at least parts of the Heights (to my south) have power, but just less than two miles to my west they lost it about 2 a.m. We got a moderately strong rain band and some gusty winds about 5 a.m.

The old oak trees in the front only shed a few small branches. Thank goodness there was no real damage here. My thoughts and prayers are with those further east.
