Freeper Positions on the Environment (Vanity)

Posted on 09/23/2005 8:36:54 PM PDT by maui_hawaii

Everyone knows republicans get hammered on the environment in every single election cycle...

I just thought it would be interesting to hear freeper opinions about it.

On one thread I made the following post:

Now that I think about it many surfers are environmentally friendly...if that says anything. They want to protect the ocean.

Me, I think thats a legit thing to do.

If you see what washes up on the shores of Hawaii sometimes you will think people shouldn't litter the oceans either...

If your neighbors threw all their garbage in your yard you would have a fit...

Not to mention that if you are a sportsman (hunter/fisherman etc) you want to protect what you do right? Its in the self interest of the sportsmen (and even some industries) to protect the enviroment and to manage game. Given I am no kook about it, but I think it needs to be done. Otherwise my grandbabies will never have the thrill of catching a nice fish or shooting bambi.

Its just in Hawaii the ocean is in your face, and in Nebraska and 90% of America, its not close enough to home to worry about. The average joe doesn't see it...

Anyway I just thought this is as good of time as any to hear everyone's two cents on something conservatives get hammered on all the time...

I guess my position is that hunters, fishermen, the tourism industry, and basic citizens have a vested interest in protecting the environment to some extent.

While I am no tree hugger and I think bambi taste good fried...I think there needs to be a common sense approach to protecting the environment.

What if you are a bass fisherman but you go to the lake and see all the fish floating belly up? It happened down the road from where I am... someone poured their excess chemicals in the river and viola... no more fish.

We talk about gun rights all the time here...but what about this? Doves, quail, deer, rabbits, etc are going to have to live somewhere...

Add your two cents. I think it will be interesting...

God has ruled to have dominion over the earth and we should be good stewards....I believe in taking care of the environment and if these enviromentalwacos would be quiet long enough they may be suprised that we would agree more than disagree

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I'm invested in domestic oil exploration.

Man (and woman) is living to an older average age than ever before, which means that all these old geezers have lived thru all those dark years where no serious environmental regulations were present.

Yet today, with all manner of laws and regulations, we are told that nearly everything is harmful and will potentially kill millions of us every year.

Exactly, I recall a Scientific American article in 2001, ( and yes I too agree that magazine usually has red agenda), that was very objective in its viewpoint of ANWAR.

The gist of the article was that our technological advances in oil exploration and recovery will have a minimal impact on the local wildlife and fauna if we were to explore further in ANWAR.

The article pointed out that the caribou population has increased 300% since north shore exploration and the pipeline.

The downside was tire marks left in the tundra drawing up grid-lines and that caribou females will not bear their offspring within 100 yards of a derrick.

Yet the lefts solution... well who in the heck really knows what their solutions are other than to imitate Luddites.

Not proud of it, but I don't keep up with environmental issues. I've watched many documentaries and read articles about animals losing their natural habitat. Bears and other animals ending up on people's front lawns...things like that.

I'm an animal lover. I know saying that around these parts often makes one a target, but I really love animals.

This is why the President is correct in kicking NASA into new directions.

The cost?

Yeah, that question of cost always drives me nuts.

Its like people want to haggle over the cost of an entire planet. Totally "ME" centered question. The potential ROI is astounding, bigger than anything man has ever done.

But you know what? Its all spent here on earth, employing the best and the brightest. Yet to here the Libs talk, we are launching dollar bills into space never to be seen again

S O L A R

let me say it again.....
never mind, I just like the idea of renewable energy used responsibly.

It's not free, but it pays for itself...eventually.

I compost, recycle and also conserve water. I believe in good organics and I don't eat meat and if I did, would only be organic meat and not factory farmed meat. Factory farms are some of the biggest polluters around.

My View ?

Hmmm

I don't think God would have given us this great planet just to let it over run us EVERYTHING is at our disposal as long as we use it wisely we should use all we want

Greed will kill this planet faster than anything else we could do aside from a nuke war !

The idea of environmentalism has been hijacked, and now has nothing to do with the environment. It's now all about control. The envirowackos are control freaks. Look at the extreme ones, who actually have de-population schemes: "Humanity is a virus infecting the Earth Mother Goddess Gaia."
My view on pollution is based on property rights. If I dump chemicals that get into the water supply, that is the same as if I sent my dog out to your front porch to do its business (maybe worse, but you get the idea).

Well.....it's like the idiots who drop their Starbucks cups and doggie doo doo bags (both of which I occasionally have to carry, also) on the side of the path where I walk......people who have NO respect for ANY environment are the problem. I've been known to throw a piece of garbage back INTO the car of someone who tossed it out (they were a brother and sister in their teens, I think).....and tell them...."Pick up YOUR garbage." Even yelled at a guy who dropped his straw cover (on purpose) outside of a Starbucks......More people need to be HELD responsible for their own s*it. Mother Earth can take care of herself if we all take care of OURSELVES and our STUFF.

"Of course that means protecting the habitat of those animals to some extent..."

Conservative thought: Cull an overpopulated heard so that a lack of food and disease won't ravage it.

Environmentalist wacko: To each according to their need and never kill. Share the food among the heard so each are slowly starving, running across roads and encroaching upon cities.

Good point Fred.

I befuddled an anti population anti human lefty last week.

I made the statement that human beings are the GREATEST NATURAL RESOURCE on this planet.

We are the only entity on this planet that can create for the sake of creating.

I love animals, too.

They go really good with things like french fries, stuffing, and steamed vegetables.

"...we differ from the wackos who give the word "environmentalist" a bad name"

"Environmentalists" use the issue simply as an excuse to impose socialism on the rest of us.

If the meat doesn't kill you, those fries will.

Good point. A culture of entitlement leads to a disrespect of neighborhood and lack of personal responsibility. Once working undercover surveillance in the ghetto, with my wife tagging along, we started at 6am. The neighborhood was pristine. At midday the dregs came out. They literally POURED trash out of cars at the intersections. Pedestrians never used trash cans. A nice "historical district" looked like a ticker tape parade had occurred. At 5pm the Streets and Sanitation trucks arrived and City workers picked up all the trash.

The next morning I arrived back at that location. The neighborhood was spotless.
