Hurricane Rita landfall is anticipated within the next few hours. Strong winds and heavy rains are battering southern Louisiana and southeastern Texas.
MSM news crews are shouting over the howling winds as they foolishly describe blowing rain, swaying trees, and crashing waves through rain splattered camera lenses. It's a hurricane. We know these things already.
An 18 wheeler rig reportedly overturned on an I-10 bridge. The fate of the truck driver is unknown at this time. Reports of widespread power outages in Lake Charles. KPLC-TV Lake Charles local news has remarkably improvised their reporting from a remote location. They are taking calls from residents, NWS, and public utility representatives, and alerting residents to local conditions.
On the flip side, CNN announced to the world that law enforcement officers had evacuated from Port Arthur TX with the rest of the population. Engraved looter invitations would have been more elegant.
Godspeed to all those in the path of this storm.

How is the purple cast doing?
Yeah me too. I am a school teacher and I know the "look".
I really miss marquee, don't you?
Why lurk?
agreed
LOL:)
That's totally creepy. Do you have any links with more info on the face?
The chemical tinge smells metallic, if you know what I mean. I can't really place it. Sorry - it's very faint. The smell of rotting organics (plant and animal matter) is much stronger, and you can smell the sea - but I don't smell "fish" or "rotting fish".
More info on storm surge in Lake Charles?
Probably a power or utility(Internet) outage along the line.
They are in a serious place right now.
Heard an LA legislator say in TV interview the other day that plans are afoot behind the scenes for recalling Blanco.
Where are you, specifically?
The good old days when you had to have a kill-all-tags file handy on the desktop :-)
"Lake Charles isn't under water."
Isn't that pretty much the definition of a lake? ;)
The NTSB has said that it could take weeks to find out...
there were reports of a piece of metal sticking out of the tire...
The coroner in Dallas also said it could be weeks before he identifies all of the victims...sigh...God Bless them...
I was listening to a talk show this morning right after it happened and this woman called a local show and was crying, and saying that she and her daughter and others were driving by the bus while it was burning...but before it exploded and her daughter saw some of the passengers beating on the windows...
Don't know if THAT is true....just what I heard on the radio...jeez
That God for people like the driver of that bus. He risked his life to save as many people as he could.
What? No mints on pillows or room service for CNN?
reporter on from Lake Charles on CNN. Expect flooding but no claim of being under water at this point.
Building in Galveston was originally the Eagle's Lodge, built in 1863. Had been sold 3 years ago and was now an art gallery. This is by phone from a Galvez person to KPRC - Ch 2.
She thinks the name of the gallery was Henderson. I haven't found anything about it yet.
She said it was actually 19th and PostOffice, one block east of 1894 Opera House.
As long as they didn't leave the keys to the mini-bar,....
This is probably going to get uglier.

"Records raise safety questions about faulty brakes, proper insurance coverage and whether Global Tours and Charters, of McAllen, Texas, was even legally allowed to operate its six buses, one of which was left a burnt shell holding some two-dozen corpses early Friday morning on Interstate-45 near Wilmer. . .
