As society progressed, engineers began to see the advantages of building their bridges above the water.

Bush's fault. He ordered the hurricanes to suck away all the water from the rest of the Earth...

They should excavate under it and try to locate the remains of one of those trolls that used to live under them.

The reservoir can't be that old. Did they just forget it was there?

Answer me these questions three:

What is your name?
What is your favorite color?
What is the net total weight capacity, in metric tons, of a degraded underwater stone bridge?

I'd guess they knew it was there when they built the resevoir and deliberately let it be covered in water. Maybe they've known it was there all along, and it's newsworthy just because we can see it now.

If that reservoir had been in Louisiana, we'd see the remains of old school buses parked on the bridge.

Yep.

Based on my experience with U.S. reservoirs, I'd bet that, at normal lake levels, that bridge is a well-known fishing hotspot.
