Able Danger: Witnesses now allowed to testify (DOD changes mind)
NRO ^

Posted on 09/23/2005 9:02:53 AM PDT by slowhand520

ABLE DANGER [Kathryn Jean Lopez] In from Specter's committee office: Washington, D.C.--Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary, will hold a second hearing on Operation Able Danger on October 5, 2005.

In the initial hearing held on September 21, 2005, the Department of Defense refused to produce five key witnesses relating to the identification of 9/11 hijacker Mohamed Atta. The Department of Defense has now changed their position and will make the witnesses available in a public hearing. The Committee will focus on obtaining corroborating evidence as to what occurred with the pre-9/11 charts and information which were allegedly destroyed by order of DoD personnel.

But why the change of heart? I hope the DOD didn't use arm twisting and intimidation tactics to these guys

I suspect that the Commander in Chief made a phone call and explained and reminded the Pentagon who is in charge of the military.

There you are! Glad you saw this. For some reason, I can never remember how to spell your screen name.

And I hate to over-use a ping, if you know what I mean :-)

It was quite shocking to me that Rumsfeld either directly or through his subordinates gagged those Able Danger officers, so I am DELIGHTED to see this change. And whoever brought it about - smooches!!

I guess the bureaucratic higher-ups needed some more time to coordinate in order to be able to figure out the new bunch of BS they're going to throw out. I guess now we're up to the coverup of the coverup of the coverup!

I think it was Rush yesterday that was positing that it may have been some "career lawyers" that stopped this information back when it SHOULD have come out...

so, maybe one of those same "career" lawyers tried to stop it again...

Hopefully, those "career" lawyers were put there by Clinton...and the jig is UP!!!

As previously stated, this looks like a classic Bush-Rove rope-a-dope....

Get the media to trumpet the fact that Rummy is, "stonewalling". Let Rummy stonewall a few days until the Dems and their MSM sycophants are demanding the testimony, then let the truth hang out where it cannot be ignored since so much noise has been made about what was being covered up. If the DUer's had any brains, they'd be wetting themselves like a cocker spaniel in a thunderstorm at this revelation. IMHO this will be at least as damaging to Gore as it will be to BJ....

Berger's taking these documents from the Archives, and the Commission's unwillingness or inability to deal with anything that happened prior to the Bush Administration, lead to the conclusion that there was a big Clinton coverup underway. It's too obvious.

It sure does.

And I am so GLAD that this is going to go forward.

Our nation deserves to understand what happened and why.

My suspicion centers on jamie gorelick over at the DOJ, her wall and her willingness to subvert the first 9/11 commission by sitting on it instead of testifying before it, as she should have done by ANY ethical and moral standard.

Jamie...you may have to throw in your bosses, reno via billy and hilly.

You guys all trashed our nation and left us all vulnerable.

It's long past time that Bush stopped defending clinton from his treasonous malfeasances. Bring it out in the open and let clinton explain it.

I think the Clintoon stepped in it big time when he critisized W about our ongoing effort on terror. W had been being Mr NiceGuy where the Toon was concerned and got stabbed in the back.

Here's hoping W has seen the light and realized the pathetic Toon's have no intention of stopping their rhetoric aimed at undermining the President's efforts.

The 9/11 Commission hearings were so obviously a piece of theater. "Yessir, the Clinton Administration was diligent in fighting terrorism. We did everything we could. All Bush's fault." Richard Clarke was a big part of that. Someone should have told Clarke that Berger had taken his memos from the Archives. What would Clarke have said then?

And then, of course, there's Jamie Gorelick. What did she do on the Commission to help the cause?

I'll believe it when I see it. So far, Bush has been complicit in covering for Clinton, now for 5 years. Maybe Clinton's most recent attack opened Bush's eyes. But I wouldn't hold out too much hope.

I see this a lot on FR. Why is it Bush is always taken to task for not playing the blame game like the DimWits do? In my opinion this puts him way above those petty, putrid, morally bankrupt @ssho!es that only know one way to confront W and his administration.

I myself salute him for his obvious respect for the office he holds. He is the complete opposite of Slick Willy. BJ embarrassed America with his shenanigans in the WH. Bush has often put forth his opinion of how politics should be played, and it has never included the low down dirty trick style the Dems continually resort to.

Many here want to fight fire with fire, but it is just not in his nature. To expect W's administration to act like this is wishful thinking. Even in his speech to the pentagon yesterday he refused to name Clintoon specifically. W's morality forbids him from this kind of behavior and in turn he forbids his team to use it also. He leads by example and has no intention of falling for the DemonRats race baiting, name calling, failure blaming, rhetoric. I for one think this is admirable. I think the American people are well aware where the failures in government lie.

Probably lined up protection yesterday while W was at the Pentagon.

I just saw it a half a minute before seeing your post and a half a minute after sending you a private message regarding Laura Ingram and Rumsfeld and Abel Danger. Thanks

Senator Sessions had remarked during the hearing that SecDef Rumsfeld would be giving some Senators an update on the WOT and Sessions was hoping Rumsfeld would be able to clear up the objection to the witnesses testimony.

Evidently .. it was not Rumsfeld WHO WAS STOPPING THE TESTIMONY .. as the media so thoughtfully put forth .. it was probably some of Gorelick's shills.

"Let's just hope that the witness doesn't go near Ft. Marcy Park between now and the time of the testimony."

Good one. Always pays to be careful when going after Clinton. However, it does seem as if the murders have tailed off since Bill left office. When committing murders, I've noticed that it is extremely handy to be married to the chief object executive in charge of law enforcement.
