Arnold: I'd 'kill' anyone who took daughter for abortion

Addressing a California ballot initiative, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said he would "kill" anyone who took one of his daughters to have an abortion without notifying him.

"I have a daughter," Schwarzenegger said in an interview with the Sacramento Bee. "I wouldn't want to have someone take my daughter to a hospital for an abortion or something and not tell me. I would kill him if they do that."

The Republican governor, who has two teenage daughters and two preteen sons, was responding Tuesday to Proposition 73, an initiative that would make most abortions for minors illegal without prior notification of the girls' parents or guardians.

Schwarzenegger, a supporter of abortion rights, clarified that he did not literally mean he would kill someone, but he left no doubt as to how strongly he feels about the issue.

"It will be the ultimate of being outraged about it and angry about it," he told the Sacramento paper.

"They call me when my daughter falls off the jungle gym in the school and they say, 'What do you want us to use? Can we put a Band-Aid on it? Do you want to come in? She's crying a little bit.'

"They call us about everything. I don't want them in that particular incident not to call us."

If one of his daughters sought an abortion on her own, he said, "then I would deal with that also."

Specifically, the initiative would make an abortion provider subject to civil penalties for performing an abortion on a minor without notification of a parent at least 48 hours in advance.

A pregnant girl, however, would have the right to petition a juvenile court judge to waive the notification requirement.

Schwarzenegger said he's not sure whether he'll endorse the measure on the special election ballot Nov. 8, explaining he already is pushing four initiatives and may not want to divert attention from those.

Backers of the parental notification measure argue that the measure would protect a fundamental parental right.

"In California, a young girl under the age of 18 can't get a flu shot or an aspirin from the school nurse without a parent being notified," Paul Laubacher, a Sacramento nurse and the official ballot proponent of the Proposition 73 initiative, told the Bee. "But a doctor can perform an abortion without notifying a parent or guardian."

Opponents argue it could further endanger young girls who are victims of sexual abuse or family violence. The requirement to seek a judge, they say, would traumatize already confused and frightened girls.

>>>My daughter is going to court to petition a juvenile court judge to waive the notification requirement, but I will not be aware this is happening? What.....is there a covert group that whisks her to court and I don't know about it?

I think it is a safe assumption that this option is for the girl that was abused by the family member.

When I was a senior in high school, three girls in just one of my classes (home ec...go figure) had abortions and then came back to school and bragged about it. Not a single one of them was a victim of sexual abuse or family violence, but rather they were all victims of their own stupidity.

No doubt I am a little older than you, but what year did this happen? I grew up in an era that the young mothers gave birth and gave them up for adoption, discreetly.

I'm like you,
I grew up when a girl disappeared from school for 6 months to 'go live with her Aunt in Florida'. When I graduated, I think there were 3 girls pregnant AND all newly married.

I think RvW came into effect when I was a Senior in HS. I believe the first girl I knew who had a abortion was in college and it nearly destroyed her...same with just about every other woman I've know who did it.

That is your interpretation. Not his words and this article is showing not his actions.

Arnie will never be President. He is not born in the USA.

Instead of "termination depot" I'd rather they be called" Chop Shops". That term REALLY puts the truth of things to light.

And BTW-- MAYBE, (prayerfully),just maybe, this is the start of a trend of Arnolds(we can all pray for that !!)

Arnie is now pro-life? I've not seen that reported anywhere.

I'm aware of the Constitutional difficulties Arnie (or I) would face in becoming President. I'm staying out of that one. That's not my call.

He doesn't dispute his daughter's right to kill her child, just wants to know about it first...

His daughter has that "right" under Supreme Court rulings. He obviously does not want her to "exercise" it. I note that "deeply troubles" you ...

No doubt I am a little older than you, but what year did this happen? I grew up in an era that the young mothers gave birth and gave them up for adoption, discreetly.

I graduated high school in 1986. And there was nothing discreet about these girls--everybody was aware of what they were doing and who they were doing it with because they were very proud of their activities and issued weekend reports every Monday morning in homeroom. They thought it made them "popular."

There was one girl that was seriously disturbed (well they all were, but this one was extra-special). She had gotten pregnant by her boyfriend and began wearing maternity clothes to school and was carrying around baby books, etc. She wasn't even showing yet, but she was talking about the baby to everyone. Just around the time she started to show, she suddenly came to class wearing the skin-tight Jordache jeans again--no more belly. She had gotten into a fight with her boyfriend and went to have the abortion the next day. It was all very surreal and disturbing to me that one day she could be bragging about her baby and the next--it's dead. No emotion, no reaction whatsoever. Sick, I tell you. I heard from other people that she did it to get back at her boyfriend for something.

The other two skipped class on a Friday and went to have their "procedures" done together. Guess that made them feel better about it, who knows.

I'm assuming from this article he is. He is not my Governor.

One of the red herrings the left uses in labeling politicians Pro Life or Pro Choice is the rape (abuse) issue.

That shouldn't be on the table when forcing a politician to take a stand on the Pro Life topic. But the left uses it.

Getting the decision back into the family and away from Clinics/Schools/Local Nonprofits will solve alot of problems.

No-one - not the Supreme Court, not the President, not the Congress, NO-ONE - can give anyone the "right" to kill an innocent baby.

Good question.
