Bush: Weak terror response led to 9/11
Sep 22, 2005, 19:00 GMT
WASHINGTON, DC, United States (UPI) -- President Bush said withdrawing from Iraq would be a mistake that would embolden terrorists just as U.S. responses to other attacks led to 9/11 hijackings.
Speaking Thursday at the Pentagon after an update on the war on terror, Bush said a pullback would be seen as weakness and make the United States less safe.
'The terrorists saw our response to the hostage crisis in Iran, the bombings in the Marine barracks in Lebanon, the first World Trade Center attack, the killing of American soldiers in Somalia, the destruction of two U.S. embassies in Africa and the attack on the USS Cole,' Bush said. 'The terrorists concluded that we lacked the courage and character to defend ourselves and so they attacked us.'
It was the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, carried out by al-Qaida operatives, that led Bush to launch the war on terror with an attack on Afghanistan, where al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden had been given sanctuary. Bush links the fighting in Iraq with the war on terror.
The president said the plan is to follow a strategy of making political gains in the affected counties, while training local personnel to assume security operations.
I like it! But I'll modify it (to remove your name.)
Correct argument. Should have been made six months ago.
Not only diddling, but think of the message sent by pandering to Arafat while he directed the murderous reign of terror against Israel.
Now how about, "No money for Katrina", "No money for Rita","I've ordered our troops to secure the Mexican and Canadian borders", I will never again appoint Bill Clinton to anything", "I've asked Julie Myers to withdraw", Either the Saudis play ball, or well take the oil we need", I've today ordered the execution of Saddam Hussein and all prisoners in Gitmo", "Terrorize our country and kiss Mecca goodbye", "Iran is next, then Syria!"
One for Carter and one for Reagan. We were all guilty...Bush finally calls it like it is!
"President Bush said this so many times before but I do not think you were listening, were you?"
It looks like I'm not the only one here who thinks this is somewhat of a first. And I know most of the people here listen pretty good.
"Now how about, "No money for Katrina", "No money for Rita, . . ."
I can't find fault with a single one of your ideas. They all make perfect sense to me.
I would have even gone back to our shameful pullout from Vietnam.
Maybe the President is finally waking up to this fact and has decided to do something about it. Hopefully this is just a start.
Yes!! I was watching this morning and just happened to look up when Bush and the rest of the A-Team were around the podium, then I heard this come out of his mouth and my jaw dropped. I yelled to my wife "Holy shi-ite, did you just hear that?" I got no response as the wife was busy doing her hair or something, but I was absolutely pumped to finally here him stand up to the media who treat this war as a creation of the Bush Administration.
Attention Media Whores! Bush is cleaning up a lot of other people's messes! Iraq, Terrorists, Levees, Overtaxing, Social Security, No accountability in schools, and on and on. I know he isn't doing everything we want, but damn if he isn't doing a fine job with what he has tackled. We just need to elect a Pro_Borders Republican to finish up the last MAJOR issue.
W forgot OKC, Flight 800 and the other one with the egyptian carshing into the sea. Oh well, good start.
Be carefull.
Some mod might hassle you for using that word without the pretty **'s.
I actually felt ill when he made that statement recently.
It's about bleedin' time he took a shot back, as opposed to his backbone-free father who "likes" the SinkMaster.
Anyone got Video?
It appears he took a swipe at Reagan and Carter, too.
Not really. This is poor timing on his part. This should have been said a long time ago, or after the Katrina and Rita hurricane stories die down.
Right now the American sheeple are not interested in tax cuts, Natalie Holloway, the war on terror, the Afghan elections, etc. They are interested in what hurricane Rita is going to cause in the way of destruction, and Rita's effects on gas and home heating oil prices.
This is poor timing on Bushes' part. Outside of FR and other politicaly oriented groups, it will get lost in the howling winds of Hurricane Rita. - tom
Very good! I have been depressed at the resounding silence coming out of the WH. I realize that there's no point in responding to every little Dem whimper, but failing to respond at all leaves Bush's supporters hung out to dry.
