Bush: Weak terror response led to 9/11
Sep 22, 2005, 19:00 GMT
WASHINGTON, DC, United States (UPI) -- President Bush said withdrawing from Iraq would be a mistake that would embolden terrorists just as U.S. responses to other attacks led to 9/11 hijackings.
Speaking Thursday at the Pentagon after an update on the war on terror, Bush said a pullback would be seen as weakness and make the United States less safe.
'The terrorists saw our response to the hostage crisis in Iran, the bombings in the Marine barracks in Lebanon, the first World Trade Center attack, the killing of American soldiers in Somalia, the destruction of two U.S. embassies in Africa and the attack on the USS Cole,' Bush said. 'The terrorists concluded that we lacked the courage and character to defend ourselves and so they attacked us.'
It was the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, carried out by al-Qaida operatives, that led Bush to launch the war on terror with an attack on Afghanistan, where al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden had been given sanctuary. Bush links the fighting in Iraq with the war on terror.
The president said the plan is to follow a strategy of making political gains in the affected counties, while training local personnel to assume security operations.
LoL... never happen.. dreamer...
Bush wants to be loved not feared..

"He can't be growing a backbone now."
You know, I don't think its that he doesn't have a backbone. After all, he had the backbone and the courage to directly go after those who stuck us on 9-11, fearlessly and boldly. Its just, just my opinion of course, that he tries so hard not to copy the ruthless attitude of the dims...to the extreme. He lets too many of these fools go unanswered when he would be more than justified in hitting back... hard! Its also hard though, because he knows darned well that he has precious few friends in the media who would portray he words in an accurate and unbiased manner.

Untrue.
Reagan-1
Carter-1
Clinton-4
All blame was not equal.
i keep hoping he'd hire scott ott to write some of his speeches
He's always had a backbone. He was just trying to keep from dividing the country when we're at war, but since the other side has consistantly thrown marbles under his feet, he's now going to do what has to be done.
The Marines barracks terrorist attack in Beirut in October 1983 was the real birth of islamic terrorism. On the tactical level, this incident started the most important and the most efficient tactic that terrorists use which "Suicide Bombing". On the strategic level, the failure or most precisely the unwillingness to hit back at the islamic terrorists in Lebanon after the Marines barracks terrorist attack have greatly embolden the terrorists.
Granted that the most important visible enemy at that time was communism and the Soviet Union and President Reagan greatest achievement was the destruction of the Soviet Union, but ignoring the threat of islamic terrorism then was a strategic mistake and the beast have grown so much from 1983 to 2001 and no one have seriously dealt with terrorism until we got hit on 9/11 and we went to war against islamic terrorism. A war that we are winning and we will eventually achieve the final victory thanks to the bravery of our military and the great leadership of President Bush.
"truth bullets"?
As long as they're .50, slow and square . . . :-O
Maybe it could be that his policy is speak softly and carry a big stick??? Kinda like a certain Presdient policty a hundred years ago..
I hear that.
You're on a roll ;-)
WAG THE DOG !!
Plus the fact that the Soviet Union was an ally of Syria at that time.. If I'm not mistaken..
Mr President, give the order to release the able danger information - who blocked the information pre 9-11, and why?
He'sw ALWAYS had a backbone!
You are absolutely correct.
slick willy got slapped... lmao
Yeah, but he took a little swipe at Reagan, someone whose shoes W can never fill.
