Atta files destroyed by Pentagon
The Washington Times ^ | 9-22-25 | Bill Gertz

Pentagon lawyers during the Clinton administration ordered the destruction of intelligence reports that identified September 11 leader Mohamed Atta months before the attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center, according to congressional testimony yesterday. A lawyer for two Pentagon whistleblowers also told the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday that the Defense Intelligence Agency last year destroyed files on the Army's computer data-mining program known as Able Danger to avoid disclosing the information.

Her name surfaced because she was at Stanford as was a Chinese defector who redefected. This triggered a "connection" which was recognized to be specious. Who knows if she ever even met this individual.

Yeah..why would they do that before 9/11 - it was only after 9/11 that he papers made them look bad.

Follow the money. Who would profit financially by those names not being known? The house of Saud? Who'd they donate to?

Have you read the second paragraph of the article? It places quite a bit of responsibility on the Pentagon, if not directly on Rumsfeld:

A lawyer for two Pentagon whistleblowers also told the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday that the Defense Intelligence Agency last year destroyed files on the Army's computer data-mining program known as Able Danger to avoid disclosing the information.

The documents were destroyed because regulations required it. Whow wrote the regulations?

The regulations seem to be part of the "wall of separation" between intelligence and law enforcement.

"This is Bush's "forgiving" character,"

It doesn't seem to be doing anything to help the republican party or President Bush.

The public/private meeting is one thing, and doesn't particularly concern me. The destruction of documents last year is something else. I would like to know why the Able Danger documents were destroyed last year.

I think this part of the report bears being put in large type also:

Mr. Weldon said he thinks Able Danger was shut down after a "profile" of Chinese weapons proliferation linked two Americans to Chinese students at Stanford University engaged in technology acquisition for China.

This ties in with SANDY BURGLAR stealing files from the archives.

I heard that not only were the files deleted but, on another thread here some time ago, I read that acid was poured on the hard drives.

Physical destruction of hard drives with classified or sensitive information is the norm. I've actually shot a few of them.

The program was destroyed in 2004.

One possibility (and this is why, yes, we need to know about why they ended the program) is that with info coming out to Rep. Weldon and being told to the 9-11 commission, maybe the intelligence community thought it best to disband AbleDanger, maybe to continue it under another name or in another department?

Clinton's administration destroyed information BEFORE 9/11, when they couldn't have known that the destruction of the World Trade Center and the attack on the Pentagon (and the White House?) was about to occur.

Bush's administration destroyed historical documents about Able Danger 3 years after 9/11. I want to know why.

The documents were destroyed because regulations required it.

Regulations required destroying intel on U.S. citizens after 90 days. Atta and the other three 9/11 terrorists identified by Able Danger were NOT U.S. citizens. Specter got the Pentagon lawyer to admit as much yesterday; so the regulations-required-that-we-destroy-the-documents argument is bogus.

Am I mistaken, or was Atta actually an American citizen? I thought all this time that he was an alien on a visa.

This is puzzling. I have such great respect for and faith in Rummy. I wonder if open hearings with this info would somehow comprise some aspect of national defense. Could this program secretly be in operation now? Could it be some kind of black ops for which they don't have legal authority? It doesn't make sense. If this could damage the traitorous RATS, you would think that the Bush team would want this out in public. There are some significant things going on which we just don't have enough info.

Could you please stop mentioning Clinton?

This article concerns actions taken by the Clinton administration, in which Rumsfeld did not serve.
