If there are any hills, and you are going under 5mph, shut off the engine on the downhills and roll.

This is BAD advice on cars that have power steering or power brakes, as most cars today do.

You know, for the future we should figure out how to store goods at airports. We can make hangers into shelters, and then we have access to planes to fly people wherever they need to go when the storm is over.

We need a hanger that can withstand a severe storm, of course. Also, airports usually have good traffic flow in and out, and lots of parking.

Trump knows enough to express keeping the government on infrastructure and tax insentives while letting the private sector rebuild. Seemed reasonable but I couldn't watch more of BOR, I was keeping tabs on the Jet Blue flight via local coverage.

If there are any hills, and you are going under 5mph, shut off the engine on the downhills and roll. Even if a few cars cut in front of you, you will conserve gas if you can keep your engine off for more then 45 seconds or so (someone want to correct that time range).

Good way to have an accident and make a bad situation worse. Why? Because I would bet that 99% of the vehicles on the road are running power steering and power brakes. They don't work well without the engine running.

The best thing this storm could do it turn N and plow into NO again. I'd rather we have to rebuild one major city/port instead of two.

To avoid the Houston traffic, I always went southwest first through Alvin, out 1462(360?,36?,90?) and made my way up towards Eagle Lake. It sounds like all the major roads are parking lots.

I spent five hours out in that mess last night, and discovered that while every freeway was a bumper-to-bumper parking lot (I made only 9.2 miles in an hour and twelve minutes at one point), the surface streets were wide open and clear. Anyone heading anywhere should pre-plan a route using littler roads, you'll get there a heck of a lot faster, plus the gas stations off the freeway still have gas, while the ones on the freeway have long lines and/or no gas. It's amazing what a difference two blocks makes, if you just get away from the highway.

BOR does not want to consider market supply and demand.

He was complaining last night that he couldn't find anyone that would admit to being the one that sets the price. Idiota. I think it's that shadowy figure named "Halliburton" that does it. If we could just find the man behind the name on that company, I think we would find the one who's pulling all the strings.

The Truth Is Out There.

Haven't had time to read the rest of the posts, but if no one has said it: Shutting off engines locks the wheel in most cars. It also turns off the power brakes/steering. NOT A GOOD IDEA!

I mostly agree with you, but I'm wondering -- if this thing does a miracle-turn and actually misses Galveston/Houston, how many people will be willing to go through the hassle of evacuating Next Time??
