Moscow supports Tehran in nuclear stand-off

Russia threw Iran a diplomatic lifeline yesterday by publicly defending it against the West’s demands that it be held accountable for its nuclear programme. After two days of heated debate among the 35 members of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, the Kremlin said that it was prepared to block moves by the European Union to have Iran referred to the UN Security Council for possible punitive action. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs insisted that the issue could be resolved through diplomatic means.

Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, said: “While Iran is co-operating with the IAEA, while it is not enriching uranium and observing a moratorium, while IAEA inspectors are working in the country, it would be counter-productive to report this question to the UN Security Council. It will lead to an unnecessary politicising of the situation.”

Moscow’s position matters. It has not only the support of a dozen IAEA members, but a Security Council veto to block any attempt to impose economic sanctions on Iran. It appeared only to harden resolve in the EU, which failed to clinch a deal with Iran in two years of tortuous diplomacy.

On Tuesday the EU circulated a draft resolution condemning Iran’s “failures and breaches”. Peter Jenkins, the British representative to the IAEA, toughened the language against the country yesterday in a statement which said that the EU was “deeply concerned by the fact that Iran gives every sign of being intent on developing a fissile material production capability well before the international community obtains what it needs: confidence that Iran’s programme is exclusively peaceful.”

The US called on the IAEA to report Iran to the Security Council. The issue may come to a head today when the IAEA could be split if compelled to vote on the EU resolution. Some members want a vote suspended. The US is pressing for a vote which it is confident will be passed with a convincing majority. Others propose shelving the document until the issue can be debated at a future IAEA meeting. Ali Aghan Mohammadi, spokesman for Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said that the EU ’s hardened position meant that there was “very little future” in a negotiated agreement.

The great thing about Iran is that you can grab the oil and gas fields in the southwest without going anywhere near the population centres. Unlike Iraq: no muss, no fuss.

Without oil revenues they can kiss their nuclear bomb program goodbye.

Now all we need is an excuse.

Tehran and Moscow seem hell bent on handing one to us.

I wonder if the Russians will stop defending Iran when the Chechens explode a nuclear device in downtown Moscow?

Nah. Didn't think so either.

The Iranians are anti-American, and that apparently trumps everything for the Russians--even their own continued existence.

And what is Iran's primary target? Israel.

It seems the obvious one, but the range of the missiles they're building are completely excessive for Israel. Hopefully it's Paris.

After 9-11 the Middle East's greater terrorist & nuclear threat to the entire globe was successfully surrounded.

Perhaps there's a need to launch a preemptive strike at an appropriate time and under the right conditions.

Indeed Ethopia is one of the hardest keys to understand, but it is precicely that, a key to the lock of the prophecy. The Northern nations invasion was always hard to understand for many years, but when Turkey went Islamic in the vote 3 years ago, suddenly the key appeared. The lock can be opened with a simple twist now. Turkey must be a part of the invsion from the North, with Islam, that is suddenly not only possible, but now probable.

But the prophecy that is about to pop, and must pop first in my estimation is Zephaniah 2 and its parallel with Isaiah 14:29+.

Irans primary target is not Israel, it is the US. Remember Israel is called the little satan, it is America that is called the great satan. My fellow Americans tend to shuck that off with a "how can they reach us?" reasoning. They can easily reach us. When, (not if), they conclude building there nuclear arsonal in the next year or two, they will nuke our main army force in Iraq, breaking the back of the American Military in a first strike. While we could then nuke them back, we will not have the ability for many years to ever invade and hold any Islamic lands, and will be completely defensless to the new Russian-Chinese force that is building to invade America.

This is not an accident, Islam rides a Red horse. Islam has always been fueled, armed and trained by the Communust-Socialist's as a tool to break the West's hold on the Middle-East. Now it has become the anvil to the Chino-Soviet hammer. Full scale Nuclear war is now in our near future.

If you look to the end of Isaiah 14, you will see that the Gaza pullout and resulting war is the key to a much bigger lock, the destruction of the Middle-East in a one day war, Isaiah 15-17.

If he really backs Iran when the cards are down, then hes a bigger fool than I would think a POTRF (president of the Russian Federation) would be. In the long run the natural ally is America, because we face the same threat ultimately--Islamofascist terrrorists.. They have been shifting in strategy from time to time and with one actor on the global stage to another. Historically they tried to keep a tenous peace with the Golden Horde, yet they tried for centuries to Russify the Central Asian provinces, now they try to crush Chechnya, yet engage constructively with Iran... They need to learn a lesson. Is it going to take a 9/11 level catastrophe on Russian soil to teach them that the only good Muslim is a dead one?

Well one could say "fool", there is a long bloody history accorded them, and they are not referred to the Russian bear without reason. What spikes my curiosity as I watch the attempt to juggle their former satellite nations and foster new ones is they always seem to come down to a jealous competition toward US. I do expect them to back Iran, at least from what is coming out of Iran gives all appearances and confidences a pact has been made.

Though the Israeli nuclear arsenal was small compared to Mother Russia, they wanted them to know there would be nuclear retaliation.

Glad to hear that; and I agree with your comments regarding the jihadists will likely be the initiators.

"This is so very serious.

How is Israel supposed to survive after Iran gets nukes? How many U.S. cities will be blown up when Iran gives a few to the many terrorist organizations they harbor and support with massive funding? How many other Islamic organizations and states will be awash in nuclear bombs, setting them off willy nilly against us? Can Civilization as we know it survive? I feel many grossly underestimate how serious this is.

This would be a terrible time and way for Russia to stab us in the back. I hope Russia thinks twice, I hope there is some different behind the scenes negotation than the face presented here."

Hey I found this site, prophecy.org . Read up on Russia. The guy started these prophecies began in 1990 just after the collapse of the Soviet Union. According to him, Russia is the beast portrayed in Revelations. North Korea will attack the South, the war will spread into the Sea of Japan and WWIII will officially begin.

Ezekial 38 also. The good news is that Christ tells us that He will cut the days of triublation short on behalf of the righteous because if He didn't "No flesh would be saved. That's Mark 12 or 13, cant remember off the top of my head exact vs.

They will get there own death from being this stupid, but unfortunately, we will probably be first.

"appear to be Israel in a military response, but God bringing the destruction to the attackers."

Fire and sulfur raining down from the sky and melting the skin off the attackers, with Israel cleaning up the bodies for several months. Sounds like nuclear warfare to me. Read the entire bible and see that character of God. Direct intervention with the angels happened only once, and that was the Assyrian army. According to scripture, one powerful angel came into the camp of the Assyrians and killed 185,000 men. Not saying this would not happen again, just sounds like Ezekial 38 that Israel excercise her "sampson option".
