"Compare and contrast! Can you imagine the comparisons taking place all across the country. You preplan. You see a problem and handle it. You know how to take care of yourselves."
That is EXACTLY the phone call I made to FoxNews yesterday!!! They kept going on and on about the Federal Govt 'doing it right' this time in Texas, and I liked to have kicked in the TV screen. Finally I found a number I could call and punched in the 'correct a story' and left them a scathing message that we Texans have been dealing with floods and hurricanes for a long time and asked, "How do you people think we were able to act so fast in setting up shelters in Houston, San Antonio and other places? Because we not only take care of our own, but we are capable of taking care of others! Yes, we appreciate the federal assistance, but get this right and stop spinning like Rita! We have done it without help before and we can do it again! I noted today they shut up!
I'm a dangerous person on the phone and in e-mailing elected officials and newspapers, one of the advantages of being disabled and at home ;)

Honey, hush. In our neck of the woods, we STILL all call it that.
Translate this sentence:
"I'm fixing to go to the ice house and get me a soda water."

Not surprisingly, the local tv channels are singing the high praises of everyone involved in the evac, from the mayor, county officials, FEMA etc. That is so very much unlike what happened in S. Louisiana.
A Brazoria county judge called one of the stations to complain about Harris County ordering an evac and now HIS people couldn't get out.
I wanted to ask him, "What is it that you do not understand about cat 5?"
