Breaking: Jet Blue emergency landing, Long Beach, CA (UPDATE: Plane Landed Safely)

A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.
Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.

Sorry, thats why among other things your ticket is so cheap. Most likely though they will go back into other recent airplanes and re-check the rebuild on the gear.

Talking about the sun. In another hour, it will be down on the runway and in his eyes. Not good.Makes me wonder if he's waiting for darkness. He certainly wants to land into a headwind because airspeed keeps the plane aloft rather than ground speed.

If I am on that flight, I am thinking thoughts of the good variety, hoping to God that the Cap is a former military pilot and thinking of the large triple I will get as soon as I get to the airport bar.

Not a freshman. He's a MIT graduate and retired. I was talking to him on the phone while he was driving and gave him wrong info. I told him it was the main landing gear. Once he got home and saw it was the front landing gear he gave it much better chances. Thank goodness, you are right. These folks do have a good chance of survival.
