Breaking: Jet Blue emergency landing, Long Beach, CA (UPDATE: Plane Landed Safely)
KABC Channel 7, live broadcast

Posted on 09/21/2005 4:21:43 PM PDT by kingu

A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.

Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.

According to KTLA chopper pilot monitoring the aircrafts freqs, he said pilot is going to keep it up for another 10 minutes or so. That was about 2 ago.

---Pilot expects 10 more minutes per pilot---

ok, so that's 20 minutes?

Unless they have a plane full of deadheading pilots.

That's right, I remember that now. Knew it was a story like that. Thanks very much for the info.

Oh dear, I just tuned in. This looks like it's been happening for quite a while. My heart goes out to the passengers, crew and their families.

Prayers being said.

He had loss of hydraulics and so could only steer and descend the aircraft by increasing and decreasing engine thrust. A true American hero!

Would you feel better if you were pinged every single time one of the tens of thousands of daily flights makes a safe landing without incident?

I'd feel better.

It's that or a union guy here in the states. Remember the Eastern Airlines unions? San Salvadore doesn't sound as bad as that.

well they are gonna find out soon. If the links are broke it might straighten. If not it'll just fold up and skid to a stop. I could be wrong, but I don't see it being a problem unless its sucked into an inlet. If its like Boeing the thrust reversers can open before they hit ground. I think 10ft above ground so even if they scrape they ought to be open.

Drudge is best at "Developing" stories vice "Breaking" stories

If there is another plane incident soon Drudge will have the headline: NOT AGAIN!

if that's the case, wake me up when they get down to the last three or four pilots.
