Breaking: Jet Blue emergency landing, Long Beach, CA (UPDATE: Plane Landed Safely)
KABC Channel 7, live broadcast
Posted on 09/21/2005 4:21:43 PM PDT by kingu
A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.
Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.

Not even sure if this one had a C check yet. Jet Blue buys its 320's brand new, the first ones should be due for check soon. They take good care of their pilots, they all get laptops with all the jeppesen maps on it and all the plane system data on it on first day of training.
First time at LAX for Jet Blue (insider joke).

I have to hand it to MSNBC for presenting some calm and reassuring information about how the pilots will safely put it down just in case the passengers are watching.

And he just said that Jet Blue has DirecTV ON BOARD........so the passergers are watching this on the news.I guarantee you the flight crew has deactivated live TV. The passengers are watching old "Friends " reruns now.

This has happened before, just a few months ago this happened, I don't get the non stop coverage.
This gives the MSM the chance to not show the great job Texas is doing with the evacuation versus Louisiana.
They have been showing a plane fly in a circle for an hour for a landing that pilots are trained for.

Thanks for all the info, CS.

On the live CBS2 feed, the close up shows the front wheels. They appear to be loose, moving due to the airflow.

I saw somwthing like this once while in the AF.
Not as big of an aircraft as this, but it wasn't pretty.
Trying a rear wheels up causes the tail to drag.
Prayers up here, strong and long. Bring her in easy Cap, easy as you go....
