Breaking: Jet Blue emergency landing, Long Beach, CA (UPDATE: Plane Landed Safely)
KABC Channel 7, live broadcast
Posted on 09/21/2005 4:21:43 PM PDT by kingu
A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.
Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.

Those passengers are going to FREAK when they see the film of what they went through.
I suspect there might be ore than one person on board who will name their next kid after the pilot.
Anyone know the pilot's name?

Per MSNBC...."this may a Sim for future Airplane pilots" Almost all incidents and accidents are used in the simulators to train pilots. One of the most difficult is United Flight 232 which crashed Sioux City, Iowa.

Everyone in our office just let out a loud cheer...it was so wild watching that right in front of our windows as we parallel 25-L runway. WOW! Now that is as close as you can get.

They will jack it and get it off the runway. That runway is usually used this time of day for all the 747's going off to Asia and Europe.
I hope to be flying out of there in a few weeks or so on EVA airlines.

Sorry, I'm not really grumpy, I just don't like how some profess to know God saved this plane, when there's clearly many tragedies he does ~not~ prevent.

Now the big question....
What are the chances we had a FREEPER on board?
To: COEXERJ145
I'm glad they had United 232's Captain doing commentary.
He and crew did a helluva job as well that fateful day in Iowa.

For real? If so, I wonder if that's part of a strategy to move as much weight as possible back towards the functional rear landing gear.
