Breaking: Jet Blue emergency landing, Long Beach, CA (UPDATE: Plane Landed Safely)
KABC Channel 7, live broadcast
Posted on 09/21/2005 4:21:43 PM PDT by kingu
A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.
Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.

I used to live in Long Beach on Heather Ave...it lined right up with the runway just beyond the freeway. The planes came in so low that I thought they'd hit our roof.
Lots of PSA & Seaplanes back then.

I flew on AA last year out of Long Beach Airport. You have a better chance of drowning in your own bathtub than you do of dying in a plane crash.

Couldn't Edwards AFB take them in with less collateral danger?
To: kingu
Excuse me for being an idiot, but why would they drop fuel?

Excuse me for being an idiot, but why would they drop fuel? So there's less fuel for a fire.
