Galveston Independent School District buses carry evacuees off the island on Interstate 45 Wednesday.

I think that some clever freeper with photoshop skills could do a nice visual juxtaposition of NOLA and the buses there versus Galveston and the buses there, dontcha think?

It's amazing what arranging for drivers and places to go ahead of time will do.

Well if you live in RED state the state officials seem to be more prepared less coruption!!!

Hmmm - I think I'm beginning to sense a pattern here. FL (both this year and last), AL, MS, and TX are all red states which seem to have had far fewer problems than LA, the only blue state in the bunch.

The drivers are allowed to transport their families out in the first trip. And they get to take their pets. Of course can't wait to hear the first complainers that the trip was hot and bumpy and smelly and no seatbelts and a dog peed on their shoe and the water they were given wasn't iced down properly and where's their $2000 and ...

"Where do you suppose they found the drivers? Based on what Nagin said, I would assume that drivers would be hard if not impossible to find in the face of an approaching hurricane."

WELL M TEXANS DID A STRANGE THING... THEY ASKED/ALLOWED THE BUS DRIVERS TO TAKE THEIR FAMILIES OUT WITH THEM ON THE FIRST LOAD.

I SUPPOSES IF YOU BIG EASY STUPIT TINKIN DON'T COME BIG EASY.

"Most mayors in this country have a hard time getting their people to work on a sunny day, let alone getting them out of the city in front of a hurricane." -Mary Landrieu

Good thing the mayors in Texas (and Florida and Mississippi and Alabama) aren't like "most mayors".

You mean to tell me that the mayor of Galveston is not going to wait until after the fact and then go on CNN and exclaim:

"I need reinforcements, I need troops, man. I need 500 buses, man. We ain't talking about -- you know, one of the briefings we had, they were talking about getting public school bus drivers to come down here and bus people out here."

"CIA Might Take Me Out"

It appears that, unlike New Orleans, Galveston at least has a mayor not given to puerile histrionics, as well as total ineptness in an emergency situation.

Actually NOLA had a plan to use city buses, but they didn't follow through with it, which makes it all the more a tragedy. they told people for years about the plan to evacuate the inner city with buses and then failed to deliver. In fact, NOLA had lots of plans, but many wound up being unworkable, such as the failure to assign drivers to each of those evacuation buses.
