Opens the door for a stealth conservative candidate for the next go round.

The democrats have proved they will oppose anyone Bush nominated. If they were smart they would have gone along with Roberts since his confirmation is very likely. I think the majority of the population saw just how intelligent and capable he is for the job.

The dems could then have ranted and raved about how "far right" the next nominee is all the while wearing their "bipartisan" patch on showing how fair and balanced they are.

Bring on Janice Rogers Brown, or better yet, the white guy Luttig.

If there are a significant amount of Democrat "No's", then appointing a Janice Rogers Brown will be that much easier. It will look like the Dems are crying wolf for anyone Bush appoints.
