I live in Nevada and want him for a bumper sticker. I want to put him (the grungy one) on the front bumper with about a 90 mile an hour inpact!

I do not expect a pure party line vote. Nelson in Florida faces re-election, in a Bush state.

Then appointing a Janice Rogers Brown will be that much easier. I just heard on Howie Carr (I missed the beginning, so I don't know who he was citing) that the Administration would like to nominate JRB, but she has a "fiery temperament," and they're afraid she'd just haul off and let Biden, Shumer, Kennedy et al. have what they so richly deserve!

It is not in the best interest of the country for Roberts to receive only a party-line vote with minimal Democratic support. Well it at least might crystalize the SCOTUS issue for the voters and inject the issue into Senatorial campaigns where it should have been for the last 40 years.

Hopefully...there won't be a Senator Lott or Hatch by that time. I am hoping and arguing for new Senate Republican leadership after the 2006 elections.Let us pray.

That I do not know the history about. The clear breakpoint, however, was Bork.
Deference was traditionally given to the President and his nominee. The assumption of the constitution and the framers is that a nominee will be confirmed, not that the President would have to pitch a half dozen of them at a Congress who spends months debating how to best block him/her.
In the past nominees were confirmed in the same day of their nomination!

I hope "our" pundits on the tube and in what's left of the press take the Dems to task for voting against Roberts only for the sake of opposing Pres. Bush on all matters. The Dems should be ashamed, but who is throwing this shame into their collective faces?

I think it might have begun to change in the Roosevelt years but it became clear to the Liberals (both parties) sometime between FDR and Eisenhower that the SCOTUS could be the failsafe pseudo legislature on issues that were political dynamite. I also think that the 17th Amendment (that allowed election of the Senate) was not a small contributor to the logic but that is more subtle. There was great wisdom in having the State legislatures appoint/elect Senators, but that's just MHO.

It will take a miracle of God, and two or three newly elected, true conservatives...plus some guts from the whole bunch to pitch the softball playing with all the crowds (Socialist Democrats, Georgetown types, Country Club Republicans, etc. etc. etc.).

Since Reid owes a great dael of his Hispanic support to a group called "Amigos For Democracy," you'd think he wouldn't be complaining.

Racial Picture Changes
Eddie Escobedo founded the El Mundo Spanish-language newspaper more than two decades ago when he was a bartender at the Sahara. The paper's circulation has increased from 5,000 to 30,000 today, and Escobedo is wielding increasing influence in elections. Using his own database of registered voters with Hispanic surnames, he has rallied the Latino vote in a number of tight political races, and his organization, Amigos for Democracy, credits the most recent victories of County Commissioner Mary Kincaid, Las Vegas City Councilman Gary Reese and U.S. Sen. Harry Reid to his efforts.

Some Rats have given indications that unless the Republicans conform to their social and economic issues they would hold this vote hostage. None have directly stated this but there have been hints at this tactic.

Because of my work schedule, I didn't hear the first two hours of Rush, but he was on fire that last hour. He dug into Dingy Harry like a jackhammer, and for that matter, liberals in general.
