Just a little question posed to the forum: What are your suggestions for activities the United American Committee may do to help stop Islamic terror in America and protect the American people? FYI The UAC focuses on confronting the Islamic extremist threat in the U.S., we'd like to know the peoples thoughts on activities and direction:
Deport all illegal aliens.
It's not a matter of whether or not you like it. It's what has worked for nearly two full centuries. And as the old axiom goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Let me put it this way: my grandfather emigrated to the U.S. from Sweden. He raised all of his children with this simple philosophy: You are NOT Swedes here. You are Americans. We keep our traditions at home where they belong, but we are in Rome and we are obliged to do as the Romans do.
If more people did took that simple approach, we would not have half the problems we do today with hyphenated-American this and this "my cultural needs met by the government" bullcrap.
As for the latter part of your message, we've already been through a period where we tried to treat terrorism as a criminal issue. It didn't work.
And I'm hard-pressed to think of any "Christian terrorists" who have killed 3,000 people in one day on U.S. soil.
Nicely said.
"Nah, the Barbary Pirates were a Naval action."
Which was interference with the affairs of other nations.
Other nations had a stake in keeping the Barbary Pirates active.
"And it was OBL who said he was waging war against the US because of the troops in Saudi Arabia."
Really?
I seem to recall he mentioned more than just our troops being in Saudi Arabia.
Fact is, he would have attacked us regardless of whether we had troops in Saudi Arabia or not.
Try again.
Subtle distinction: we overthrew noone, we simply pounded them a bit with Navy and Marines until they backed off. And President Jefferson had the authority to do this in order to protect American commerce. He would not, however, have had the authority to commit the resources of the War Department - the Army, had their been a standing Army - without a formal declaration of war from Congress.
Fact is, he would have attacked us regardless of whether we had troops in Saudi Arabia or not.
I'm not sure you can state as a fact - with absolute certainty - that OBL would have attacked us if we had not had troops in the Middle East. Can you cite a source?
"Subtle distinction: we overthrew noone,"
Barbary Pirates were no longer a threat after that.
"I'm not sure you can state as a fact - with absolute certainty - that OBL would have attacked us if we had not had troops in the Middle East. Can you cite a source?"
How many attacks did OBL's outfit do?
Hint: Plenty
How many of them had anything to do with Saudi Arabia?
Hint: None.
Yes, OBL would have attacked us anyway.
Saying that if we just pulled out of Saudi Arabia OBL would just leave us alone is fanciful thinking at best, and dangerously ignorant at worst.
Now, I do not know if they still attacked ships of other countries or not; that would be interesting to research.
Practical advice to help prevent terrorism in the U.S. All you young people get busy learning Arabic/Farsee (sp). We need many ears to hear. If you can pass for a Middle Easterner, become a Muslim (cross your fingers when you swear in), and get into the mosques. The biggest problem we have had regarding Islamic terrorism has been the lack of eyes and ears in the midst of them. We had plenty of those regards the Russians. Suggest you also learn Chinese. If I were a much younger person I would be studying languages. Infiltration is the best defense.
"They just knew better than to mess with us. "
And pullig out of Saudi Arabia wouldn't accomplish getting them to fear us.
"I am willing to give up a large amount of privacy and a tiny amount of civil liberty in order to help prevent terror. That's why I grudgingly support the Patriot Act."
Why should freedom loving Americans give up any of their liberties? Since Islam and freedom are mutually exclusive and Islam doesn't distinguish between religion and government, let's just outlaw Islam. The dim O crats and republicans alike feel free to butcher our Constitution so this shouldn't be a problem for them. As much as the left refuses to admit it, this is a country created on Christian values, let's keep it that way. Just a thought.
No, I'm positing that had we never gone into SA in the first place, he would not have bothered us. But that is speculative, and we can never know for certain. And ya, it may be a bit of isolationist thinking peaking through.
"No, I'm positing that had we never gone into SA in the first place..."
Saddam would have stomped them flat, and then what?
Besides, how much is "a tiny amount of civil liberty"? The 2nd Anendment? It's only a few words. Habeas corpos? We really don't need proof to prosecute when we just KNOW the SOB is guilty anyway. Prohibitions against illegal search and seizure? If yer not guilty ya got nothing to hide. Where does it end? Who defines a "tiny amount?"
Other than that, I trust them completely.
Darks, I think Dee needs to be "dipped" one more time. There's still some of that liberal propaganda stuck on her/him. Anyone who has read the history of Islam knows that this conflict was inevitable. When a group's aim is to convert the world to one unbendable code of religious law, you just know there's going to be trouble.
Racial profiling, internment and deportation.
I'm not sure that he would have, but for the sake of argument...I would have suggested the Saudi Arabians arm themselves, preferably before Saddam stomped them, and would have had no problem realizing a tidy profit in helping them do so.
Geez, it's like a conversation people have about you when you are still in the room. What, do they think I can't hear?
