Protesters can claim one more case where protesting has proven effective. The Hollywood remake of the comedy Oh God! planned for this summer will not be going anywhere soon.
Last fall, Hollywood announced with some fanfare the news that Jerry Weintraub Productions would be filming the remake which portrays God as a wise-cracking cranky individual full of defects and imperfections. As if that were not bad enough, the so-called Supreme Being was to be played by the avowed lesbian talk show host Ellen DeGeneres!
That was before thousands of protest flyers went out nationwide. Prior to the production of this offensive depiction of our Creator, the America Needs Fatima campaign asked its members to sign and send protest postcards to the film producer, Jerry Weintraub, and its distributor, Warner Brothers.
Since that time, there has been a strange silence over the whole production. The films official web page reports absolutely no details about the progress of the filming which was supposed to have taken place this summer.
The mystery perhaps can be explained by the fact that Ellen DeGeneres has just announced that she will not be starring in the film citing a busy schedule and her disappointment with the script. (AP, 09-03-2005)
The fact is the production is off, says campaign director Robert E. Ritchie. After a massive protest by our members, no one wants to talk about it anymore. Its dead in the water.
Mr. Ritchie reported that the blasphemous production Jesus Has Two Mommies, a theater play that portrayed the Virgin Mary as a lesbian was not shown last Christmas season at its usual venue in Massachusetts after massive protests. Similar results can be seen in other productions where Catholics stood up for God and His Mother. The important thing is for Christians to make their voices heard.
God is only going to stand for so much blasphemy.
These satanists fail to understand just what an eternity in torment really means.
She doesn't strike me as good God material anyway...too scatterbrained.
I think that was the actual appeal for the casting choice. That and the gay aspect, moreorless like a jar of urine with a crucifix submerged in it, the point seems to have been to desecrate the concept of holiness.
Funny that now that she's not involved, it's deemed "dead." I suppose to those who are, everything else is.
Ellen Degenerate.
Thats what I have been calling her for years. Funny that someone so, well, "degenerate" would pick such a stage name. It may be her real name. I don't know.
This is good news, but is Leonardo Di Caprio still going to portray Theodore Roosevelt?
They need to find someone who thinks he is God to play the part. And there are plenty in Hollywood. Tom Cruise, for instance. Or Madonna.
And too woman. And too lesbian.
But like all of us, she will be judged by Him.
BTTT
George Burns played God in the original, and I think John Denver also starred.
Burns makes a good God image, complete with cigar and wise cracks. Granted, God is perfect, but since he invented humor he must have a perfect sense of humor.
I have also seen God portrayed as a hip puerto rican in "Steambath."
But a lesbo....this is so outlandish its funny....I am surprised I am not offended...its just so lefty freakshow....they are completely out of their minds!!!
Yeah, but those are ultimately secondary to the fact that she's too big a dingbat to be a convincing God.
Gee, this isn't going to flop.
Keep coming up with those great new ideas, Hollywood!
Fox just reminded us that the Emmey awards are tonight and Ellen DeGenerate will be hosting. I wonder how long into the show it will be before she, the presenters or award winners will begin bashing Bush as responsible for anything and everything regarding Katrina and New Orleans.
(I know, I know stupid rhetorical question!)
It is OK to blaspheme Christinaity -- try this on Islam and see what happens.
Sickening.
I like Roosevelt historically - D'Crapoio ain't him. In fact, I cannot think of a single living Hollywood prenner who could have spent a weekend camping with Teddy. Stick to the books...
When I first saw this thread title I was hoping that since Ellen is hosting the Emmy's tonight that she wouldn't play God and blame President Bush during the award show. I guess I hoped too much from liberal Hollywood.
Leo can actually act though, so except for the differences in their builds that isn't too awful. Especially since I can't think of too many commercially viable actors who look like Theodore Roosevelt.
