I agree every White House will watch polls. But, I have not heard one Bush official quote polls for decisions as we heard time after time with Clinton and even today by the press. If Bush has been influenced by any poll, it certainly has not been reported or admitted to. Unlike Clinton who used polls as his justificaton for doing something.

From the left we hear "the people want this" or "that" but with Bush we hear it's the "right thing to do." Big difference to me.

Yesterday, I was telling my husband about a soundbite I heard on local newscast...where a black man from NO was interviewed outside of the Astrodome in Houston..after Bush
's speech on Thursday...

He was asked what he thought...and he said that what Bush "
offered" wasn't good enough...that he thinks that EVERYONE that was "hurricaned out"...should get $20,000 each.

My husband and I decided that we the taxpayers would be getting off EASY...if that was the case!!!

Those poor people would feel good about that $20,000 for a bout a week...then reality would set in.

You have every right to be a Bush cheerleader, even when he's wrong. But don't call yourself a fiscal conservative. You're not.

...is expanding the federal bureaucracy and telling the nation, the federal government will do whatever it takes and will spend whatever is necessary. More big government Republicanism. This is a policy agenda that fiscal conservatives do not support. The Bush proposal is government largesse at its worst. And you do nothing by giving the President and the GOP Congress a pass. The federal governemnt does some things well, other things poorly, but on most issues the feds get involved in, they fail at miserably.

I happened to see that. A foul mouthed fellow he was. I fear this is going to turn into a 9/11 situation where the "families" felt they were entitled to piles and piles of money. I hated watching all of that and I hope I don't have to do it all over again.

I forgot to expand on my original statement that I didn't think that Pres. Bush cares PERSONALLY about his numbers...

I am sure his staffers do...especially Karl Rove...but I am talking about the man, Dubya...

Yes, a very good observation. I do not mind those who criticizes the Pres and say he should do this or that instead. For example, how many people know Pres Bush stated Friday that any new Gulf Recovery spending would have to be paid for by spending offsets? That he would NOT sign any taxhikes? These same "Conservatives" were in full mental meltdown mode screaming that Bush "Should be offsetting the spending with spending he all ready signed" I have reached the conclusion that these people either are Hysteric Leftist posing as "conservatives" or simply too mentally limited to deal with a reality that does not correspond to the delusions fed to them by their favorite "conservative" pundit. I have NO time left for those who keep screaming their anti Bush personal feelings as "facts" I guess I should quit taking them on and just go back to asking questions. Favorite thing to do is ask them "what is the solution then? What should Bush be doing?" Usually they will hem and haw and try to duck but eventually you can pin them down to the most insane "Govt should be doing nothing" nonsense. See the Cast Iron Conservatives are, like cast iron, brittle and cheap. They are all for limited Govt unless it is on topics they want the Govt to take over like Trade, Gas Prices, Immigration etc in which case they want the biggest most expensive Fed Govt. dictated solution imposed as soon as possible. The fact that their "Solutions" are so completely unworkable politically doesn't matter. They are all for "Limited Govt." until it comes time for the Govt to do what THEY want then they demand Bush act like a dictator and just impose their narrow "solution" on the rest of the people. Like the Hysteric Left, they seem to have trouble grasping the reality that we are a Representative Republic, not a Presidential Dictatorship.

I have seen it too in Britain but we must not let the fact that some spoil it for the many stop us trying to promote it.

What we have to remember though is one cannot educate crime or bad behaviour whether moral or criminal out of people it has to come from a change of heart whether that be religious or just a moral change from within. The Liberal Party in GB in the early 1900s thought that they could educate crime out of people it did not work and eventually one saw the demise of this party to where they have metamorphasised in the minority Liberal Democratic Party.

Having said all of that we still have to aim for better if people are not willing to change we cannot do much about it but we cannot allow this to affect our basic belief in the good of mankind but bear in mind the reality.

You continually show your political ignorance with remarks like this one. It's a fact of political life. Pick up a book, or get on any political website that discusses presidential polling. Internal WH polls have been going on since Eisenhower. Gallup has been polling since the 1930`s. Get yourself informed.

Always amazes me how "Conservatives" claim Reagan as their intellectual Godfather while ignoring the times he made the best of bad deals and signed things like 2 tax increases and an illegal alien amnesty. But I guess the Reagan of their daydreams is more comfortable for them to cling to then the Reagan of reality.

In a perfect world....there would be no reason to have FR....

It is because it is social programs with an emphasis on faith and helping oneself to make one self a better life that is not on the left's agenda.

I don't think some of us are "giving Bush and Congress a pass"....

Just because we see reality for what it is...that the federal govt. HAS to take care of this...doesn't mean that any of us are willing to sit by and watch the wrong people in charge of the money, or spending on anything and everything.

I think we have indicated also, that we would like Congress to go back and cut some spending from previous bills to offset the costs of this...I personally, think that just about every state could find something that could be cut from the Transportation Bill or other bills...
