Over a casual dinner, Rachel Kaplan turned to her boyfriend and asked, "You're open for a prenup, right?"
Darren Waldohlz, 38, a partner in a successful speed-dating business, admits he was caught off guard. But he said he realized a prenuptial agreement would protect the house he owns, too.
"It's not that I plan to get divorced," says Kaplan, 23, a single mom from Fort Lauderdale, who has a sizable inheritance. "I have to protect myself and my daughter."
While men are still more likely to seek a prenup, "women are becoming a more dominant force," said attorney Alan Braverman, who has offices in Fort Lauderdale and Boynton Beach.
Experts attribute the change to women marrying later or more than once.
"It's not uncommon in today's world that women are entering marriages with assets and stock options," said matrimonial attorney Jacqueline Valdespino, in Coral Gables. "Now both sides have equal bargaining power."

True, and you can practice that if you like, but I prefer the God given method.
So... you're not a virgin I take it. Shame shame shame.
BUMP!
You protect yourself against fraud because you know there is a possibility that fraud can occur. If a person enters into a marriage believing that there is a possibility it will not last they probably should not get married.
By the way, I never did say that.
But I do like the idea.
There virgin is used as an adjective.
I specifically specified noun.
Well, I may be not, but my wife of 20+ years still is :)
(and even after 4 kids too!)
You sound like a good date. Are you busy Friday night? ; )
Thank you for rewording what I said.
If a person enters into a marriage believing that there is a possibility it will not last they probably should not get married.
All marriages end.
Some end in death. If someone remarries later in life, with assets that were accumulated by a couple, there is no logical reason not to have a prenuptial arrangement in case the first person dies or something else changes.
Many people are extremely adept at looking like something they are not. Many people.
BTW I strongly suspect this fort lauderdale woman does not exist.
Any competent lawyer can tell you that this "professional" woman's anticipated inheritance is NOT necessarily a marital asset to be subject to equitable distribution.
Sun Sentinal bovine excriment.
"61.075 Equitable distribution of marital assets and liabilities.--
(b) "Nonmarital assets and liabilities" include:...
2. Assets acquired separately by either party by noninterspousal gift, bequest, devise, or descent, and assets acquired in exchange for such assets;

as I said, the Sun Sentinal a factual failure as always.
I do suspect you've had sex before though, so don't expect to buy me a house on the first date.
Very well said. Men have to start acting like men, & fast!
I've been saving myself for you. Laura Earl says she wishes you would hurry up!
In this case I used it as a verb.
M'lady has witt! *low bow*
I'm sure it's hard for women to deal with, but all I was saying is that the average man is not very mindful of that challenge women face. It's no less real, but when men talk about what they want in a woman, it doesn't come up until a woman raises it! :-)
Ok, so you only have to buy me a car since you haven't been devirginized. That's kind of like homogenized only not with a homo.
And some women want jewelry....pshaw.
It isn't my 40yr old woman that want's jewelry, that would be my 12yr old turning 30 woman...
My 40yr old only wants a Mustang Saleen or a Cobra svt 9 ... really she does!!!
