Memphis -- A university student from Egypt was ordered held without bond after prosecutors said they found a pilot's uniform, chart of Memphis International Airport and a DVD titled "How an Airline Captain Should Look and Act" in his apartment.

The FBI is investigating whether Mahmoud Maawad, 29, had any connection to terrorists. He is awaiting trial on charges of wire fraud and fraudulent use of a Social Security number.

Maawad, who is in the United States illegally, told the judge during a hearing Thursday that he is studying science and economics at the University of Memphis.

"My school is everything. I stay in this country for seven years; I stay for the school," he said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Steve Parker said Thursday that the airport-related items were found during a Sept. 9 search.

The company reported Maawad to authorities when he didn't pay for $2,500 of merchandise it had delivered, Gulczynski said. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Good thing the company reported him.

How many ordered this stuff that paid their bills?

I've been called "The Judge" also to reference my ability to do "bench work".

<g> That's a new one to add to my collection. I like it!

You are so right, we shouldn't even be hearing about this. Security is not well served by media exposure of successful operations.

Atta was an "Egyptian student", too.

If he's the one trying to pass himself off as a captain, he's probably the head of a cell. He probably has a crew of Pakistanis working under him (the same way AQ used Saudi crews on 9/11, for the same, very obvious, political reasons; the London bombing were carried out mostly by Pakistanis).

I'd also guess they're looking at cargo planes this time around.

He should have disappeared in the dead of night, without a sound. Right now he should in in a cold room, with a wet, concrete floor, naked, hooked up to a Die Hard.

Good question!

I hope they are looking into those who fit the 9-11-01 terrorist profile!

Im 38 and am an undergraduate, should I quit school?

We had lots of fun together, though we worked very hard, of course. We made a good team, except for the sarcasm...I wasn't able to temper that with him....as I was worse. : )

That sounds like a most impressive work atmosphere that many long for!

Is New York that much better? /snicker

Now, now this is a public forum "free" to the "public".

No sugar coating allowed! ; )

Nah.

He should be hooked up -- via a convenient appendage (assuming they can find it) -- to several alligator clips, which are attached to the Die Hard.

An because I am a humanitarian, I'll insist that they thoroughly disinfect the areas 00 before and after clip attachment -- with rubbing alcohol. Or a blowtorch.

Wouldn't want him to get an infection.

No, you mean you don't want to risk the alligator clips getting an infection. My sympathies are entirely with the clips. Look at it from their standpoint. Gruesome thought, isn't it?

adding insult to injury??? Sure..I'll say hi, as soon as they acknowledge ANY of my e-mails! : )

I just received last week a snail mail from Rep. Tancredo, not even my representative, for my writing him a few weeks prior. That's more action than I've received from any elected official in NY for the past 3 years.

I have been POUNDED with mailings from "Friends of Hillary" lately and am wearing my shredder out.

Perhaps your elected officials are too busy promoting a national agenda to reply to constituent concerns.

After all I get more mail from Hillary here in MN than I get from Norm or the idiot Dayton.
