"Instead of pushing the funding (for hurricane defense) up, they took most of it away to fight this stupid war, and that's unforgivable. I think Bush is just about the poorest president we've ever had. You'd have to go back before I was born to find a worse one."
- 77-year-old singer Burt Bacharach

"don't patronize" list. Do you know of a well organized list of these loonies?
To: Tribune7
Not as famous as "Angie".
But about as smart.

I've always thought his music to be vapid, effeminate, pop jingles. Apologies to his fans, but,,,,,,,,,no cojones at all!

Bacharach's comments on anything are about as important as Austin Powers'...maybe less.

That's it! No more Burt Bacharach albums for me. Didn't his latest hit come out on 8-track?

Yeah, I just looked at his biography and am surprised at the hits he's written. He deserves more respect than I gave him. The name made no impression on me, though.
I still could care less about what he says. Or brays, as the case may be.

It's not their arrogance, it's the fact that the MSM has a need to publish their every utterance.

It's where everyone wraps themselves in tinfoil. I've forgotten. Is it shiny side out, or shiny side in?

I tried a couple of days ago to come up with a list, but there are too many. Let's start one, and ask others to add to it:
Sheryl Crow
George Clooney
Sean Penn
Martin Sheen
Barbara Steisand
The Rolling Stones
Celine Dion
Madonna
Burt Bacharach
There's hundreds of them...I'm drawing a blank. A little help?....

Burt was probably giving an interview about something music related and the interviewer asked him about the Hurricane.

Sounds like Burt has been smoking the hippie lettuce w/ Dionne Warwick.

What most of these celebrites--those with livelihoods still dictated by the American consumer--don't get, is that more than half the country voted for Bush. In all the analysis of the ticket slump Hollywood has suffered in the last year, none of the media dares put forth the idea of political backlash. The Dixie Chicks found out in a matter of days what happens to your bottom line when you antagonize 51 percent of the public.

"I think..."
The first sentence of this whine proves that these words are at best a self-delusion and at worst a lie...

When I read or hear something like this I found myself hoping almost daily that the singers, bands and actors I love will just keep their mouths shut about politics so I can go on enjoying them.

Good, smart comment.
Even if some of the singers (et al) do actually shut up, I don't even want to listen to or contaminate my ears and thoughts with their work. And I no longer will fund any of their lives with my money.

The DC thing was actually rather overstated. They still play to sold out houses and sell lots of records. I don't think political boycotts have much effect.

So you're older than Burt and have never heard of him ... hmmmm ... have you ever heard of Angie Dickinson who was married to him? I don't know if that lasted, but she accepted a music award for him once, and was really spacy.
