Located at the mouth of Mississippi River, the Port of New Orleans is Americas gateway to the global market. New Orleans has been a center for international trade since 1718.
Today, the Port of New Orleans is at the center of the worlds busiest port complex Louisianas Lower Mississippi River. Its proximity to the American Midwest via a 14,500-mile inland waterway system makes New Orleans the port of choice for the movement of cargoes such as steel, grain, containers and manufactured goods.
The Port of New Orleans is the only deepwater port in the United States served by six class one railroads. This gives port users direct and economical rail service to or from anywhere in the country.
New Orleans is one of Americas leading general cargo ports. A productive and efficient private maritime industry has help produce impressive results, including the USAs top market share for import steel, natural rubber, plywood and coffee.
In the last 10 years, the Port of New Orleans has invested more than $400 million in new state-of-the-art facilities. Improved breakbulk and container terminals feature new multipurpose cranes, expanded marshalling yards and a new roadway to handle truck traffic.
Maritime activity within the Port of New Orleans is responsible for more than 107,000 jobs, $2 billion in earnings, $13 billion in spending and $231 million in taxes statewide.
The Port of New Orleans has also been a defined area where foreign merchandise gets brought into the country without being immediately subject to the usual U.S. Customs regulations!!!
You can move and excuse yourself from participating in the US commerce system :)
CHINA They have the capability to do so.
And Johnny White's never closed.
Oh, you're so right! Let's socialize 'em all! Provide 'em at gov'mint expense! And don't forget the bread and circuses, while you're at it. But do tell me, when did freepers turn into socialists? Is it naive of me to be so surprised?
China would jump at the opportunity.
But they would trip over Castro at getting in line to do it.
That's the spirit of NO! :D The strippers are ready to work again. I mean all those young and strapping military fellas need some down time after a long a brutal day.
I'll make it real simple for you. Building cities isn't in the constitution. Building a city with tax money is socialism, AKA robbery. Rebuilding the murder capital of the US is asinine. The free market will provide a better solution.
Oh, I get it now. It's about YOU hating PEOPLE. I was defending the memory of a place and you begin ranting about socialism. Pathetic. What an angry little person you are. Would you be spouting this much incoherent vitriol if someone dropped a nuke on Jerusalem?
I'm starting to think I'm posting to a sponge. You have not listened to a word of what the Article of this thread is nor all posts in response to your comments.
You may as well be posting on a word processor since you have no interest in what anyone else says.
One last time, Port Of New Orleans is VITAL TO ALL of US Infrastructure. That is not a lie. That is a fact. It is the only deep port water way.
If our gov doesn't secure this PORT ie. BORDER, than it is subject to eminent domain.
What don't you understand about this?
FYI, I'm not a mistah, and I'm not a hick.
NO those folks aren't going to be the first one's back. They will concentrate on rebuilding the commerce and industries there first. You know like the petrochemical industry, the port so the midwestern areas don't crash economically because the harvest is ready right now, also all the Walmarts need their Christmas toys from China. Which port do you think they use primarily.
It won't be like preKatrina. There will be major changes made in the zoning and building codes. Did you not listen to the President? It will be built higher and reengineered. It will also be a HUGE enterprise zone, ie lots of the red tape gone so that business can open and tax revenues start pouring back in. The HUD housing is gone. So the monies that were devoured by those slums will be paying property taxes instead.
Anyway, I'm done with you.
Defending the memory? You were advocating the expropriation of two hundred billion dollars from the taxpayers in honor of your "memory".
Would you be spouting this much incoherent vitriol if someone dropped a nuke on Jerusalem?
The question is purely theoretical. Try it, and see what God does to your @ss.
Please post the exact amount you're willing to bet, and we'll find a third party to hold the money in escrow. He can give it to me after the construction is finished, and the murder rate is back where it was.
Did you not listen to the President? It will be built higher and reengineered.
With my money. What part of that don't you grasp? You seem to believe that telling me that "it will be bigger and better," etc., etc., will make me happy to be mugged for the funds. Even if I believed your forecast, which I assuredly do not, it isn't enough to convert me into an advocate of armed robbery.
How does that make building it with federal funds constitutional? What part of, "it isn't in the constitution" isn't getting through to you?
If our gov doesn't secure this PORT ie. BORDER...
More dishonesty: you want them to rebuild a city, not secure the border. If you want to invoke the rubric of national defense, then let them build a naval base there, which (arguably) would be constitutional.
What don't you understand about this?
I don't understand why you think typing lots of capital letters turns theft into something other than theft.
BS: We could get off cheaper by dredging the Mississippi out deeper all the way to Memphis, TN and shipping everything out of there.
There is a navy air station there and coast guard.
Another reason to rebuild. :)
Good point!
And what will happen to this access way in the risks of eminent domain? This is a border.
,,,the base only. Once it's built, the border is secured, and calls for more than that expose your dishonesty.
