BATON ROUGE, La. -- Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco yesterday took responsibility for failures and missteps in the immediate response to Hurricane Katrina and pledged a united effort to rebuild areas ravaged by the storm.
"We all know that there were failures at every level of government: state, federal and local. At the state level, we must take a careful look at what went wrong and make sure it never happens again. The buck stops here, and as your governor, I take full responsibility," Mrs. Blanco told lawmakers in a special meeting of the Louisiana Legislature.
Mrs. Blanco's statement came a day after President Bush said he would "take responsibility" for federal failures in dealing with Katrina. The Democratic governor, who has criticized the response of federal officials to the storm and subsequent flood that deluged New Orleans, yesterday told legislators that Mr. Bush is "a friend and partner" in Louisiana's recovery effort.
In New Orleans yesterday, test results released showed that floodwaters still pose a health risk because of dangerous levels of sewage-related bacteria and toxic chemicals, potentially delaying the mayor's plan to reopen parts of the city by Monday.

About frickin' time. That ditzy dope was the one who lead the "Blame Bush" brigade...
object lesson in leadership: whether they say they love you or hate you, they will copy you (if you're a genuine leader). Bush led the way by publicly taking responsibility. This man is a brilliant leader -- a brilliant leader. Has surprised me on the upside numerous times with his responses to crisis and critics. He's up there with Lincoln and Washington - mark my words.
I think it dawned on the Governor that she won't be able to take credit for any of the "new" New Orleans that Bush will be building unless she comes clean. The MSM will provide ample cover for her.
This dingbat should be impreahced. She's a disgrade even by Louisiana's low standards.
Yes, but your saying it like that implies that each branch was equally responsible. If the truth is that the fault is 60% state, 35% local and 5% federal, that's something else again. It's the typical liberal fallacy of moral equivalence. Saddam murdered literally millions of people but a young soldier at Abu Graib put panties on a prisoner's head: conclusion--they are both war criminals.
Bush: I'm responsible for the US gov't response. Blanco (After prodding and by Bush's example): I'm responsible for the State of LA's lame response. Naggin': Ditto.
Bush: I'm not running for re-election (ha-ha). Blanco & Naggin': Hey, ain't we running for re-election? Dang, Bushwacked again.
Notice how Blanco taking the blame merits a headline in the Wash. Times--but not in the WaPost, NYT, Boston Globe, etc.--or round the clock mention on every radio newsbreak?

Well, the deal is:
YOU ACTUALLY ARE AT FAULT, DIPSH*T!!!
Kinda late for this, ain't it?
(of course, she took responsibility, after two WEEKS of constant Bush-Bashing, by the MSM, and the Pagan left).
Roberts should hire Bork as a "clerk" for RBG.
Unfortunately, he has simply bought everyone off with our tax dollars, conditioned on the blame game stopping. It was certainly an impressive political maneuver, no doubt, but very very very very expensive.
"...... The buck stops here, and as your governor, I take full responsibility," Mrs. Blanco told lawmakers in a special meeting of the Louisiana Legislature. "
Yawn....... This means nothing. The only thing that can happen to her is that she is impeached or re-called by the voters ( which I doubt either will happen ). This is clearly an empty statement.
If she truly takes responsibilty, she would have resigned.
A democrat will say or do anything for a billion dollars in federal funding
oversimplification alert.
