9 P.M. EDT.
Don't tell me yellowdoghunter is up this late! That's usually her job!
BTW, I hope you'll be flattered when I tell you I got some about you, too.
OOps that should have been reply....sorry it's getting late here.
BTW...you weren't named...what makes you think the message was about you???
Up here in MA, we only have a mini-view of Katrina's wake. It's been on tv incessantly, but when you turn the tv off, you really can't comprehend the scope of the devastation. Your mind simply can't encompass it. The private sector is already hard at work, including many, many churches, but this requires federal help. It was no ordinary storm.
You have it wrong. The Constitution was not written to mean, whatever is not specifically prohibited is authorized; it was written to mean that whatever activity was not specifically authorized, was prohibited. Politicians tried to get around that from the beginning, but until the Supremes adopted the "Living Constitution" that was the way it was usually understood.
President Bush specifically proposed that all the "infrastructure" costs would be picked up by the Federal taxpayer, and implicitly seemed to promise that everyone else would not just be put back to their original condition, but through Federal programs and subsidized, it would all be "higher and better."
He also said the Federal government and the military need more power and authority in these type of situations, I'm interpreting that as meaning the President (or the military) can just bypass a state governor who doesn't do what the President wants.
traviskicks has some excellent quotations respecting the Constitutionality of this type of aid, you should read his posting.
For example, James Madison, the father of our Constitution, said, in a January 1794 speech in the House of Representatives, "The government of the United States is a definite government, confined to specified objects. It is not like state governments, whose powers are more general. Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government."
And that poverty has roots in a history of racial discrimination, which cut off generations from the opportunity of America.
** Perhaps this is what is bothering some people. Anyone who knows the history of the region knows this is true. First because of the institutionalised racism against black people and then the three decades proceeding the end of the Civil Rights Era. It's not liberal to say that either. I don't see where President Bush says what this freeper says but we're probably just reading it different.
Because you've posted it about 20 times on this very thread?
Most people on this forum aren't as intellecutally challenged as you are.
When your enemies are daft, you're in good shape. ;)
I think isthisnickcool and you put your finger on it. Bush sees things far ahead in this project that most of us can't fathom.
Is the link at the beginning of the thread or mixed in? I think I missed it (not too sharp this evening)
Indeed. I am glad to see W step things up a notch tonight. It was good.
...just checkin'
Thank you msnimje!!! Together WE CAN!!!! Can you imagine the NOTES he would get if DRUDGE, and FReepers each emailed their address books with the suggestion, and in turn.......well you get the picture. This is grass roots at it's best!!!! We could call it the " Attutude of GRATITUDE" .........
Exactly. Hell, the Democrats didn't even want them to have the vote!
"Most Freepers are conservative (except the Bush-bots)"
2000 posts on this thread. I finally got to the funniest one. Oh Yeah, you're the majority !?!
de·lu·sion n.
A false belief strongly held in spite of invalidating evidence, especially as a symptom of mental illness.
We couldn't have picked any better ones ourselves, could we?
Its no problem, and I see I was not the only one to do so. If it was to Howlin... My comment stands. You both deserve the respect. Enough is enough I had to unlurk to say something!
LOL!
See what I mean......when you are not here, you are MISSED!
This thread is lively tonight, eh? :)
You would guess incorrectly. I was born an Army brat, and a Texan by the grace of God Almighty.
