I saw them talking about it up the thread, but hadn't seen it expressed in quite those words.
I'd love to see that.

Sounds like you're saying there is no discrimination. Well I know white folks who definitely discriminated.
Although I agree that a certain percentage of blacks pull themselves up, I think there is a segment that cannot because they don't have the mindset, have never been told they can (not educated), or are afraid to try. These are the ones who fall victims to those who discriminate.

I also thought the stopped clock in the background was interesting--6:30 or so? I wonder if it was a.m. or p.m. and when exactly it stopped. Probably 6:30 am Monday 29 August when the eye of Katrina made landfall 60 miles south of New Orleans and hurricane force winds hit the city. That's when the lights went out in the French Quarter and tiles started blowing off roofs.

Yes, it's great strategery by the President. Instead of large public housing, he'll want owners. Instead of public jons, he wants private entrepreneurs. Instead of the liberal plantation, he wants to bring everyone into the American Dream.
Now he just needs to nominate Janice Rogers Brown for SCOTUS and further make the point that the party of hope for all Americans, including Black Americans, is the Republican Party!
I love it when a plan comes together!

That is exactly what I said,;those who could not get out were supposed to be rescued/evacuated by local government using those now infamous school busses.

The RED CROSS handed out most of those cards; but, by all means, don't let the facts get in the way of your rant. :-)

and you don't think there was federal oversight on the BIG DIG program? did it make any difference? it still cost 14 billion in federal money to build a 2 mile tunnel.

We can only hope there are restrictions to who can be in the lottery.It must be for the working class who has lost their home and jobs.Not for the lazy.If you were on assistance you should not be entitled unless you get a jog and hold it for X amount of years.The loans must be paid back too.or the USA message is scream racism,loot,kill and rape,live of government then get more!

"For 6 years, Bush has been spending money like a drunken sailor? Surely you've heard of this, right? I'm not talking about military spending either. I'm surprised that you're not aware of it."
Yep. Meet the new boss - same as the old boss.

The key words the President spoke was HELPING PEOPLE GET BACK ON THEIR FEET. He is not speaking permanent help.
I see alot of long term Freepers tonight in dispute.
This disaster is unprecendented. Of course the feds need to be involved when a state cant handle the situation. Yes, I know the Constitution doesnt grant this provision. However, when looking at the cooperation of different levels of Govt(in any normal situation), the feds are best equip to do it.
Any info on earlier disasters, Galveston, Chicago and SF fires. The population was alot smaller, but did the cities and states handle the rebuild on their own? I dont have the answer but am curious to know.

I point you directly to the following clauses of the Constitution...which of the following would be violated by Congress in responding to what GWB proposed tonight?
Article 1, Section 8:
Clause 1: The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
Clause 2: To borrow Money on the credit of the United States;
Clause 18: To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.

Yeah, for a moment, I actually felt bad for the reporter, LOL!
Well, not really actually...
The entire interview was worth its weight in gold. Hopefully, someone will have it TIVO'd and available for replay for the rest of us later. I'm sure ABC won't be posting that segment on their website!

It's not minutia. You said six years twice, and then changed it to five.Still focusssed on minutia. I wrote 6 years once and then admitted it was a typo when you pointed it out. Try to stay on the big picture.
This isn't a democrat vs republican thing. This is a conservative crisis. Do we really want to the federal governemnt to start being a huge insurance company? Do you think this will end with Katrina?
