High doses of vitamin C injected into the bloodstream may be effective at combating cancer, new research suggests. Scientists found that vitamin C in the form of ascorbate killed cancer cells in the laboratory.
But the effective dose was so high it could only be delivered to patients by infusion into the bloodstream.
The findings appear to contradict earlier studies showing no cancer benefit from vitamin C.
However the researchers point out that those trials only investigated orally taken vitamins.
Vitamin C kills cancer cells but leaves normal cells intact
In the latest study a US team led by Dr Mark Levine, from the National Institutes of Health in Maryland, conducted laboratory experiments which simulated clinical infusions of vitamin C.
Cultures of a range of nine cancer and four normal cell types were studied by exposing them to high doses of ascorbate.
In five of the cancer lines, there was a 50 per cent decrease in cell survival, while normal cells were unaffected.
A more detailed look at lymphoma cells - which were especially sensitive to ascorbate - showed they were either destroyed directly or induced to commit "cell suicide".
Further tests revealed that the growth of cells exposed to vitamin C was reduced by at least 99 per cent.
The effective dose was less than four millimoles, a concentration much higher than an oral dose but easily achievable by intravenous infusion.
Why it killed cancer cells but not normal cells was unknown, said the researchers. It was possible the hydrogen peroxide caused damage that was repaired in normal cells but not in sensitive cancer cells.
The presence of hydrogen peroxide suggested possible applications other than fighting cancer.
They've finally found a good use for Tang grape crystals.
Is it my imagination, or is this second to last sentence, " It was possible the hydrogen peroxide caused damage", the first mention of hydrogen peroxide?"
Does anyone know how to ping Linus Pauling?
I once used mega doses of vitamin-C for blood poisoning. I've since (recently) used it for sinus infection...It's worked every time
Pauling pushed the Vit. C thingy 30 years ago. I guess now the 'correct" person is pushing it. (And to hell with the past victims, as usual.)
"Why it killed cancer cells but not normal cells was unknown, said the researchers. It was possible the hydrogen peroxide caused damage that was repaired in normal cells but not in sensitive cancer cells."
Vitamin C releases, or stimulates the release, of hydrogen peroxide at the cellular level. Cancer cells are anerobic (hate oxygen). Normal cells need oxygen, thrive on it, and are not damaged by peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide provides extra oxygen at the cellular level.
Hydrogen peroxide, administered via IV infusion, or taken orally in theraputic doses, will also kill cancer cells, and these treatments have been used effectively in alternative cancer treatments. High doses of Hydrogen peroxide should be complemented with 800 - 1200 IU Vitamin E. Vitamin C should fit into this protocol and enhance the effects of oral hydrogen peroxicde
Dr. Robert Atkins wrote the same thing many years ago.
"...first mention of hydrogen peroxide..."
Yes. First mention. Article is not well written, but that should not detract from the significance of the information being reported.
This really is nothing new. When my brother was diagnosed with Cancer like 15 years ago, he looked for alternative treatements and one of them were these incredible high doses of vitamin C. He had to work up to it, because the doses he ended up taking would probably do harm to the average person if taken immediately. he took so many vitamins. It worked...for awhile.
He's having dinner with Vince Foster and James McDougal.
I saw the same thing. I bet you the writer wrote this on a computer, and forgot to delete the last sentence before sending it in, or cut and pasted incorrectly. The proofreader, who is likely a dunce with no medical knowledge, probably shrugged it off.
Maybe hydrogen peroxide is the byproduct of the ascorbic acid infusion. Or maybe hydrogen peroxide also kills cancer cells. I personally love the stuff. I wish I had billions of dollars--one of the things I'd do is build a medical research center, kidnap medical students and make them (just kidding) study hydrogen peroxide's effects on all different kinds of afflictions--it's really great.
I'd imagine that eating enough C pills to do that, would also do a number on your stomach.
Personally, I drink a quart of orange juice, with pulp, every day.
vitamin c liquid or get the intravenous drip
I don't know if I'd recommend it to people known to suffer from kidneystones, but it seems to work for me.

Vitamin C releases, or stimulates the release of hydrogen peroxide at the cellular level. And yes, hydrogen peroxide kills cancer cells. I personally know a couple people who are cancer free because they used theraputic doses of hydrogen peroxide orally. We use 35 or 50% hydrogen peroxide in various ways. For routine usage we add a few drops to a glass of water 2 or 3 times a day. We add a cup or so of 50% stuff to the jacuzzi for bathing. We add it to the water tank for our horses. Great stuff!
