FYI...my thoughts.
I'll send my comments on - the crescent is a blasphemous insult - thanks for doing this.
I like the circle theme, but I think it would be better to have the memorial in the shape of a hand with all the fingers clenched into a fist,. except for the middle finger, which would be extended to the fullest. The memorial would then point DIRECTLY at Mecca.
Comments?
Jeff I don't know what the 39 florettes represent, maybe the reverse of the 93 in the flight number. How about using 40 florettes, one for each passenger?
On another point, was your 'typo' on 'givernment' deliberate or accidental. LOL! Very appropriate. A new word for FR's lexicon.
I MUCH prefer your design.
How about a beverage cart smashing throught the cresent and breaking its back?

She says the memorial design should go on as planned. None of the families members of the folks who died in the crash object to design either.
The memorial to Flight 93 should be based on the above.
That red crescent is the most tactless, tasteless tribute to our fallen heroes of Flight 93 that I have ever seen! There is NO WAY IN HELL I would accept that as a design! There's no need to desecrate this hallowed ground with the symbol of the Islamofascists!
I like your design better.
As far as the crescent, it may well have been a "duuh" moment. Remember Chevy tried to sell the Nova in Mexico, only to find out that "no va" means "(it) doesn't go" in spanish.
"Never attribute to malice that which may be attributed to sheer stupidity."
Notice the crescent shape of the upper deck.
;)
A quick note of the families, I am willing to give good odds they were hand picked fof their PC-ness.
My letter I sent yesterday thanks to Star CMC:
I wanted to let you know that I am appalled that the Flight 93 memorial is in the shape of a crescent, which you may or may not know is a symbol of Islam. To make a memorial to victims that were brave enough to stand up and fight against terrorists, knowing that they would die doing it, be in a shape of the religious symbol of the perpetrators, is sick and a slap in the face to their heroics. Osama Bin Ladens act of terror on the United States of America ended when the brave men and women of flight 93 formed a citizen militia and took down the plane. They died on their terms to save the lives of unknown numbers of people in unknown places. They need to be honored for fighting Islamic terrorists and that is not done be building an Islamic crescent on the crash site. Planting trees to form the battle cry lets roll would be better and it would remind all people who see it that we can not idly sit in our seats when terror strikes, we need to stand up and take action. In short, be American. That is why our country was founded and those are the principles on which it was built. That is why we are the greatest nation on Earth. Please do not use the current proposal for the Flight 93 Heroes.
Jeff:
Thanks for this thread and for supporting the effort to modify this Memorial.
I agree with you that it is totally inappropriate to honor the heroism of those on Flight 93 with a crescent symbol.
I visited the Shanksville site last October and was moved to tears and filled with pride at the magnitude of their sacrifice on 9-11-01.

Do you know anyone else we should contact?
And Freepers should call their Senators & Representatives because this Memorial will have public funding.
Regardless of whether the families accept this 'Crescent of Embrace'....all Americans are paying for the National Memorial so we need to make our voices heard!
Jeff & ALL:
I just called this number and spoke with Adam who is taking comments on the proposed Memorial. Superintendent Hanley is unavailable.
Superintendent - Flight 93 National Memorial
(814) 443-4557
He told me the name has been changed to 'Circle of Embrace'....but he said it is a broken circle interruped by path of the plane's crash site.
I said that just changing the name isn't the solution and that the offensive crescent symbol must be removed or modified.
I asked if there will be public hearings before the Memorial plan is finalized.
He was uncertain....but he said I could leave my name & address to be put on a list to receive written notice early in 2006 when the NPS's 'General Management' discusses the final plans.
He also took down my comments objecting to the present proposal.
