HUNTSVILLE -- A woman sentenced to die for the fatal shootings of her husband and their two children some 18-years ago was executed Wednesday evening.
Frances Newton is the third woman and first black woman executed since Texas resumed capital punishment. Her execution is the 13th this year in Texas.
The U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for the execution when justices rejected appeals that could have kept her from becoming the third woman executed in the state since the Civil War, and the first black woman.
Without dissent, the high court declined a pair of appeals about an hour before Newton was scheduled to be taken to the Texas death chamber.

Gee...that's too bad.
About time.
Race baiting mode on.
MY GOD THEY"RE KILLING WHITE WOMEN AT A RATIO OF TWO TO ONE TO EACH BLACK WOMAN!!!!
Race baiting mode off.
Seems like Texas is too lenient with women. Only 3 since the War between the states?
You shoulda heard Sheila Jackson Lee going on about this yesterday. She practically predicted riots.
They've executed twice as many white women. We know that's how the race baiters would play it if they could.
Here's a quarter, call someone who cares........excuse me if I don't seem sympathetic.......criminals should be put down more often imo.
It's fifty cents, bud!
Great post. HOORAY!
Texas also executed a woman who swung a pick axe into the stomach of an innocent person. She decided that after doing that, that she got religion and she should be forgiven.
If you swing a pick axe into the stomach of another person your intention is to destroy that person. Now, religion does not come into play.
"...third woman and first black woman executed since Texas resumed capital punishment..."
Without this all the men on death row in Texas could claim 'gender bias'.
Fifty cents?? Shows you the last time I used a payphone, hell I remember when calls were a dime, the times they are a changin'! Thanks for the update!
Business took me to College Station Texas.
There was an execution that evening.
As I passed down Texas Avenue just across the road from the main entrance to Texas A&M there were a bunch of old hippies (probably professors) holding up an anti-death penalty banner.
I felt really good as I saluted them with my middle finger. :)
Don't mess with Texas!
I heard the D.A., Chuck Rosenthal, on the radio this a.m. This woman forged her husband's signature to a life insurance policy, shot him, shot her two kids, took the gun to her cousin's house where the cousin spotted it, then put the gun (later proved to be the murder weapon) in a bag, and left it in a burned out house that her parents owned. She shot her two kids and husband for $100,000 in insurance money. She had no alibi. Oh yeah, and she was not a very smart crook.
How Ironic. I'll bet she couldn't even spell sociopath and she was one.
"They've executed twice as many white women"
However, there are 70% white and 12% black in Texas. Therefore, more black women are being executed on a proportionate basis.
On a more serious note, why did it take 18 years for the execution?
