My email to Gail Norton:

I am utterly disgusted by the proposed Flight 93 Memorial design.

The red crescent moon is the symbol of the The Red Crescent Society, the arm of the International Federation of The Red Cross dedicated to serving Islamic countries. Do you honestly intend to create a monument which glorifies servitude to those responsible for the nurder of innocents? Moreover, the crescent moon with a star is the internationally-recognized symbol of the faith of Islam, and the crescent is featured prominently in some variation on the flags of most Islamic states. There can be no greater embrace of the murderers' religious beliefs, save a memorial resembling Osama bin Laden.

This is a war memorial. The crescent, and the pacifistic idea driving the design (as stated by the "architect" himself), are an unreserved, absolute slur against those who died so tragically that day. This "Crescent Of Embrace" does nothing to commemorate the heroism of those who saved our capitol from being destroyed... Instead, it symbolizes the defeatism and apologistic nature of those would surrender our nation's freedoms in the name of passivity. Somehow, it even manages to celebrate the religion behind the killing of so many people that September morning. I find it inconceivable that the National Park service would support the creation of something that is so obviously an insult to those it purports to memorialize. Perhaps that is why there are no longer photos of this monstrous affront to humanity on your website.

I am outraged at this proposal. Should it be approved, the National Park Service should be ashamed at the stain on our nation it has helped create.

My email:

Dear Superintendent,

I'm writing to express my opposition to the proposed Flight 93 memorial. Designer Paul Murdochs tone ("a gesture of healing and bonding") and symbology (a red crescent and "tower of voices") are inappropriate, insulting and smack of a not-so-subtle attempt to appease the very enemies who attacked our country on Sept 11, 2001.

I respectfully ask that you reject this design.

Thank you,

The pansy ass liberals hate memorials that depict American bravery. They look down their nose at the heroes of flight 93 and see them as unsophisticated angry Americans. The men and women of flight 93 represent the fighting spirit of most Americans while the creator of the Crescent Of Surrender represents the weaklings of the cowardly left.Thank God the passengers of flight 93 were brave enough to kick some terrorist ass.

I'm thinking of doing a single Freep of this place. Somerset is just a few hours away.

Here's my email to Ms. Norton:

"Hello Flight 93 Memorial Superintendent,

On September 11, 2001, in a brutal fashion, the citizens of these United States were thrust into a conflict the likes of which have not been experienced since the Second World War. On that fateful day, over 40 of my colleagues were killed at the World Trade Center. They never had a chance to rescue themselves or fight back, but the heroes of Flight 93 did. Indeed, those on board that aircraft took measures into their own hands and fought – and won – the first battle of this new war.

With these thoughts in mind, I am writing to you to voice my concern and ultimately my displeasure with the design plan referred to as the “Crescent of Embrace.” Be it intentionally or accidentally, I don’t know, the symbolic representation of the crescent in this proposed memorial is misguided at best and an affront to the heroes of Flight 93 and all Americans at its worst.

When the memorial was initially announced, I was eager for its completion as I wanted to bring my two young sons down to PA for a visit. I wanted them to see and experience for themselves a memorial dedicated to the heroes of Flight 93. However, if the intention of the memorial is to promote “reconciliation” or “acceptance” of those who attacked us on 9/11, I will vow to never visit the site. Instead, I will teach my children about the true events of that day, and I will teach them about the heroes that choose to confront evil and save others rather than to fade into submission.

I urge you to reconsider both the name – and the final design – for this memorial.

Thank you for your time."

I would be interested at what the opinion of this design is from the relatives of those on the flight.

If there is to be an objection to the design it should come from them.

Wonder if they have a group organization to keep in touch with each other?

The more I look at the crescent in the design the angrier I get. BTW, why did I know that the designers would be from California?

On another post, the architect has said he will change the design. We will see.

Just WHO came up with this design?

WHAT, if anything, do the families
of those on that flight, have to
say about this?

Before everyone has a panic attack over the memorial design you need to listen to this interview today by Dan Caplis and Craig Silverman of KHOW. They talked with the wife of the flight 93 pilot and she was also on the board of the design committee.

(Windows Media Player)

She says the memorial design should go on as planned. None of the families members of the folks who died in the crash object to design either.
