Hollywood, Oregon (Governor Signs Bill To Bring Film Industry Jobs To Oregeon)
(Enter Link Here) State of Oregon ^ | 14 SEPTEMBER 2005 | Press Release: State of Oregon

Posted on 09/14/2005 6:53:46 AM PDT by jscottdavis_for_48th_district

Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski recently traveled to Hollywood to meet with studio executives and talk about ideas to increase production in Oregon. The Governor and a bipartisan group of legislators created "GREENLIGHT OREGON," a package of incentives that will help make Oregon a serious player in the competition for major film and television productions. This will create jobs in Oregon, in the United States, and generate millions of dollars for the ecconomy.

I fully support this bill since it will help to keep "Hollywood" in the United States instead of major studios going outside of the country to shoot in foreign nations to avoid heavy taxation and reduce expenses.

He has joined with Governor Schwarzenegger in attempting
to block the government's effort to log in west coast forests.

Somehow, deep down, I guess I've always known that companies, and jobs, come from government.

Yes, there's been thousands that have lost their jobs in the timber industry.

And why do you need a fricking bill to get the film industry to Oregon? Is there some law against it or maybe it's there tax structure?

Probably had something to do with the unions. It is amazing that Hollywood claims to back working people, but they go to Canada and Oregon because of "labor" costs...

True, true. I suppose taxes are cheaper anywhere other than California.

The reason for the "Greenlight Oregon" Bill is to attract filmmakers and TV producers to film in Oregon. As it stands now, Hollywood is filming out of the country to avoid the heavy taxes and expenses of filming in California. Thus, Oregon Governor Kulongoski is giving them a break and making it economically viable to film in Oregon. The whole idea is to generate the economy. That makes sense to me.

I know that Governor Schwarzenegger is also working at keeping the film industry in California.

Is it maybe his approval rating is in the 30's and hes running for relection in 06? Maybe he needs a lot of money...

As far as Hollywood goes, this is a great plan to save producers filming expenses while keeping jobs in America and generating money for Oregon.

All I know is that we need to turn the left coast to the right in 2006. That means erasing Diane Feistein (and I believe that Wyden is up for re-election also).

Yeah, correct my spelling in post #13. I should have spelled it "Diane Feinstein" as in the liberal Senator from California.

There was once a better thriving Film industry here and this proposal has been in the talks for a few years.

It is easier to get a bill through when you have no opponents as in the timber industry with the costs incurred by enviro groups and the Lawsuits filed putting the industry at a stand still.

I noticed the threads on the enviro nuts have not been posting the last year so maybe these groups are not getting the financial backing to reak havoc.

Have not had the eco terrorists destroying property in the news either that I am aware of.

Maybe the financial backers have all moved on to funding anti war groups.

BTW King Vanity has been hoping to get more film industry up here so he can shoot for some extra work.

Yeah, I heard that Oregon was full of enviro nuts!

"One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" was filmed at the Oregon State Psychiatric Hospital in Salem. Also, "Animal House" was filmed at the University of Oregon.

The Democrats have lost so much power since 1994 that they've flipped out over the war and gone back to a 1970's mentality. Basically, they have no agenda.

"Greenlight Oregon" gives producers a 10 percent discount on goods and services in Oregon, along with a 6.2 percent income-tax rebate on wages paid in Oregon. While this does make Oregon more competitive with LA/Hollyweird, I'm not sure it does much to keep jobs in the US (and out of Vancouver or Toronto), which is the bill's seeming intent.

Any Freepers out there who have a handle on film production costs in Canada vs. the US?
