When the Media Chooses to Not Report the News (but FreeRepublic covered it)
OpinionEditorials.com ^ | September 14, 2005 | Robin Mullins Boyd

On Tuesday September 13, there was a momentous press conference at the White House. President Bush and Iraqi President Talabani, fresh from a private meeting, stepped up to the microphones to deliver their statements to the waiting media. Luckily, the Roberts Confirmation Hearings were on break when the statements began so the news networks shifted the coverage.

President Bush reiterated our commitment to finishing the job in Iraq. He told the media “America will always be proud that we led the armies of liberation.” President Bush vowed to bring the troops home but sadly for the liberal media, he did not give a specific date and time for the withdrawal.

President Talabani began his statement with thanks to the United States and the soldiers. The defining moment of President Talabani’s statement was when he turned to face President Bush and said “We salute you, we are grateful to you. We will never forget what you have done for our people.” The Iraqi President’s voice and expression conveyed the gratitude more so than his words. It was a “10” on the chill bump rating scale and the pride-meter.

President Talabani issued a warning to the terrorists in Iraq that freedom would win, not the terrorists. He also encouraged those that had doubts about the United States’ role in the liberation to come see the new Iraq and the people. A pair of speeches that lasted only 20 minutes conveyed more than any news report could. It was so nice to hear some positive news after being bombarded day in and out with reports of the “federal government’s failures” in Louisiana.

As usual, the press was permitted to ask a few questions. After such an emotional and heartfelt moment, what did first reporter ask? You guessed it – a question about the federal government’s response to Hurricane Katrina. She completely brushed aside the thanks and gratitude that President Talabani had offered to the United States, our President and our military. But why would a reporter focus on anything positive out of Iraq? Isn’t Iraq still a quagmire? Or was that title transferred to Louisiana? Better yet, how about TWO quagmires at the same time?

It was not just the reporter that shifted the focus from a positive and uplifting moment for our country. The rest of the media took up where the reporter finished. Headlines across the Internet blared “Bush Takes Responsibility for Blunders” and “Bush: I Take Responsibility”. Scanning the articles revealed that President Talabani was an invisible man at the press conference. For someone that did not see the event, it was if President Bush walked up to the media and said, “Blame me”. Most of the Internet mainstream media sites made no mention at all of President Talabani’s comments – not a separate little blurb, nothing. Do you know where the Iraqi President’s comments made headlines? If you were thinking Fox News, you would be incorrect. It was on FreeRepublic.com. Once again the bloggers, the Pajamahadeen, the non-professional journalists- reported news that the mainstream in the media failed to report.

Once again, the media bias against President Bush and 51% of Americans reared its ugly little head. Did the media just overlook the information since there were other pressing news stories? Not possible – the one little snippet that everyone was trumpeting came from the exact same press conference. Was it intentional? You bet it was. How better to make the President “look bad” than to report that President Bush took responsibility for Katrina failures.

The media has made a conscious effort to slant the news in a negative direction. If it is good for President Bush, his administration, Republicans or God forbid, America, it will not be the lead story or even on the front page. How sad that the media has stooped to such a level of dishonesty and unethical behavior. Twisting the news to make it fit their agenda is one thing – deliberate non-reporting of news is a whole other issue. It is a travesty and a disgrace to all Americans.

"Actually I would be happy if they just reported the facts with no rewriting, nor hype and no spin. After watching how AP edited their pieces about the National Guard (a topic I knew something about) to fit the Hurricane response DNC spin lies, I am convinced that they will only evolve if they fire 3/4s of their current staff."

It's there 'modus operandi' that needs to be changed, then the editor and staff will have to come along. Might take awhile, though, as long as the 'Fat Boys' continue to skim off the cream.

The MSM is predictable. Bush should have anticipated that his statement on Katrina would become the sound bite. He would have been better served to give his "I am responsible" statement at another time.

"Why not blame it on FLUORIDATION..."

Fluoride disrupts the synthesis of collagen and leads to breakdown in the bone, tendon, skin, cartilage, lungs, trachea, and kidney.

Fluoride inhibits the formation of antibodies in the blood, which cause a disruptive effect on various tissues in the body, which then confuses the immune system and causes it to attack its own tissues.

Fluoride increases the tumor growth and the general cancer rate.

Fluoride has been linked to cancer, low IQ's in children, genetic disorders and muscle degeneration.

:)

The press has no shame and should not be permitted to moon the president and his guest.

Precisely! I don't see how Scott goes through it each day the way they treat him.

They need to start cutting them off in some manner, by saying "end of question" and "next" pointing to someone else.

At one time they weren't allowed to pose quadruple, multifaceted questions that take forever to go through!

Unfortunately without the fluridation of water many people won't live long enough to develop those diseases. Since the envirowhackos have opposed it deaths from water-born diseases have skyrocketed in South America.

Like many other things a little Fluoride goes a long way. But it is a valuable tool when correctly used. None should forget that it is a deadly poison however.

"Unfortunately without the fluridation of water many people won't live long enough to develop those diseases. Since the envirowhackos have opposed it deaths from water-born diseases have skyrocketed in South America."

Only in the United States is fluoridation used so extensively that it permeates all municipal water supplies. Fluoridation is not used to prevent water-born disease - in fact, the little bit of fluoride that is used would not kill bad bacteria, viruses or protezoa. Chlorine us used in water treatment to kill those bad things. Or hydrogen peroxide. Or ultraviolet light.

Again, fluoridation has nothing to do with killing the little bugs that cause water-born illness. If enough fluorine were used to accomplish that purpose, it would be enough to seriously poison many people. Fluorine is very toxic. Chlorine, a close cousin, chemically, to fluorine, is used to treat water, but chlorine is much less toxic than fluorine.

Chlorine gas, however, breathed into the lungs, causes serious health problems or death - chlorine gas was used on the battlefield by the Germans in World War I against our troops. Some were seriously incapacitated by the chlorine, others died.

Fluorides are used in municipal water treatment facilities because of the misguided science that suggested that fluorides helped prevent tooth decay. Most toothpastes today contain fluorides. People who know do not buy or use toothpaste containing fluorides. People who know do not drink municipal water out of their tap because it does contain fluorides. Fluorides are bad for us, healthwise. Fluorides in the water or in the toothpaste do not prevent tooth decay.

"... fluridation of water...Since the envirowhackos have opposed it..."

The opposition to fluoridation of municipal water supplies does not come from 'envirowhackos' - it comes from health-nuts like me who know that fluorides are bad for us. It comes from doctors and scientists who know the truth about fluorides. Check the facts...start with Google or go to the library. Read from both sides of the discussion and then draw your own conclusions, based on facts.

There is no benefit without some cost. But the fact remains that fluoridation of water saves far more lives than it costs.
And the death tolls in the third world nations which have restricted it are high.

"...fluoridation of water saves far more lives than it costs..."

Let me repeat - fluoridation if water supplies is on the premise that it prevents tooth decay. It has nothing to do with saving lives. Please give me some references, perhaps web site addresses, where I can read what you are trying to tell me. I would be interested in reading the information you are apparently quoting.

European countries are not 'third world', and many European water supplies are not fluoridated. The communities without fluoridation are not dying off from disease.

It is only in the past 40 or 50 years that the public water supplies in the US have been fluoridated. We did not have people dying from water borne illness because we did not have fluoridated water.

Please, explain what you are trying to teach me with your comments about fluoridation - I want to see from your perspective.

The local Circle K stores were trying to get me to take our local commie papers free with my morning coffee this past week. I 've learned to turn them down nicely, since the clerks are told to ask if you want one. I used to act like they were trying to give me smallpox.

"We have killed or capture roughly 500 terrorists in the last three days and the media ignored it....."

YES, my friend............EXACTLY. Kudos to our fine troops for doing EXCEPTIONAL work in the face of the nonstop drumbeat of negative worldwide press coverage.

They (the troops)don't give a damn, when all is said and done. They're there to do a mission; to take out the trash, and they do it very, very well.

God forbid the leftist MSM ever give them credit for it, either. Bastards.

I am speaking of chlorination which is undergoing attacks by the enviros. That is the problem in the third world dropping chlorination of water supplies because of the reasons you are referencing wrt fluorination. Sorry that I mixed them up.

"I am speaking of chlorination...fluorination. Sorry that I mixed them up."

Many municipal water systems in this country are switching to other, safer means than chlorination to kill microorganisms in the water supply. Some are using ultraviolet treatment, a very safe and effective process that does not add anything to the water chemically. Others are using hydrogen peroxide to kill the microorganisms in the water. Both of these approaches are safer water treatments that do no harm to the quality of the water or the environment.

Chlorine in the water is a serious health hazard, and a significant contributor cause of cancer. Let us hope that new water treatment systems in developing nations might be based on one of these two safer systems.

It is no use, the media is just not going to report anything positive about the president, the war on terror, the economy, etc. They have decided from day one to make sure he looks bad, the country and security be damned.

Given that their technological capabilities are not up to using the latest methods the dropping of chlorination will mean the deaths of many.

"Given that their technological capabilities are not up to using the latest methods the dropping of chlorination will mean the deaths of many."

Could you please point me to the info, perhaps a web site URL, that gives specifics as to coultries that are 'dropping of chlorination'.

Large portions of the undeveloped world have never had chlorination in their water supplies. In fact, I do not have chlorination in my own personal water supply, nor do I use ultraviolet. I do sometimes use hydrogen peroxide in my drinking water, but not all the time. I use the hydrogen peroxide to provide extra oxygen to the cells, in my body, giving my immune system a big boost. I do not use the peroxide for the purpose of purifying the water. My wells that supply our drinking water do not have biological contaminants.

I also drink water from an open artesian spring that is located along the road about 40 miles from where I live. I just got a 5-gallon jug filled with that water today when I passed by the spring. Many people get their drinking water from that spring, and have done so for years. The water is not chlorinated. The water is not treated in any way. The water is safe to drink, and people drinking that water are not getting sick, nor are they dying from drinking that water.
